OMG, so madoka magica will become long mahou shoujo series like precure, and nanoha?

look like SHAFT was forgot their Prism Nana project

You are assuming Prism Nana is not a viral marketing campaign for post-movie Madoka stuff. :P

Wow I didn't even check the date. But the article came up on ANN recently so I thought it was a response to that.

even the second movie made it seem like it was fully over. and we have the 3rd movie on its way for us...
if they use new characters, that might be interesting, have different generations doing this and evolving, might be good if they can do it right

Those 2 franchises are successful and ARE NOT milking it because they don't use the same cast and characters over and over again doing the same crap.

To be honest I find it strange he thinks either franchise is milking. Macross for its age, doesn't have that many series/movies, and Gundam shows are so different to each other he really has no point in that regard. Other than the Gundam name, non-UC tend to be very different to each other and focus on different demographics. Unless he's going to try to tell me G-Gundam is the same as Wing, or Wing the same as Unicorn.

Milking imo, is constantly using a franchise while staying within the boundaries of what made it successful, and being careful not to stop out of those boundaries. Sunrise hardly does that with Gundam.

Well it's more of an amazing series so why not.

This makes little sense - so when they should squeeze it?
In 1-3-5 years? People won't buy it then, now it's the best moment. Unless it develops into some long running franchise in type of Gundam or Macross - those are kings of milking.

I think you need to update your examples on who are the kings of milking.
- Macross had it's big hit back in the 80s with Hikaru Ichijou & Lynn Minmay and every series that happned after their supposed lifetime was just happening within their universe. And please don't claim Robotech was part of the Macross franchise because it wasn't. It was a sorry excuse of a franchise wanting to be part of the Macross universe.
- Gundam in the past referenced each other in one timeline (UC) but it has been long dropped and everything else that came out (FC, AC, AW, CC, CE, AD and AG) are mostly stand alone series that have no relation whatsoever to its predecessor.

Those 2 franchises are successful and ARE NOT milking it because they don't use the same cast and characters over and over again doing the same crap. You want a really good example of an anime franchise that's really milking it even when we're sick and tired of it it makes us puke bricks

Butcher might leave the quartet after the third film. Apparently he wants Aniplex and Shaft to hire a new writer because they're thinking of doing a 2-cour continuation with a new character.

Hiring more writer does NOT mean Urobuchi is quitting !!! ( It is not what Urobuchi said in the interview. In fact he answered the question of "What will become of Magica Quratet" by saying "I want to expand it". After that he said that more writers should be brought in so that Madoka can be sustained over a long period. He even mentioned PreCure as an example -- and not just the fact that PreCure lasts long but also how PreCure started as a 2-people team but is now a 5-people team as the work is constantly updated to suit the time. He wants Madoka to be like that and be remembered over time and what he realizes is that changes and updates may be needed and this is best done by bringing in more talents (which for him would be screenplay writing).

Madoka being like Precure doubtful, Precure has a much wider audience than Madoka. He needs new writers because he won't make a peaceful magic girl series on his own and trust me fans will want that soon enough.

Dont know why people are screaming about milking it and not to do anymore. At least wait till whatever they do is out and if it is good then is that not fine? we would of got something else good out of it and something new to watch out of a franchise we like. Though if it is bad then you can feel free bash the crap out of it and call milking.

This. I'll watch it and then I'll say if it was milking or not. I mean, people haven't even watched the third movie to see if a sequel is even possible, but they are sure as hell to complain about it. lol
The only thing I'll say it was done with "milking the cow" in mind was the game. The story is well written and it will please the fans, but it's a crap as a game and they didn't put all that much effort on it. And I'm a rabid fan, just not stupid.

As for a possible alter story (aka one without the original crew), I'm against it. They have so much they can do with the original characters (or at least with Kazumi Magica and Co.). I dunno if I'd continue following it if it was somekind of Precure. Well, wait and see, I guess.

Hell yeah!
It seems he wants to create another Precure or Gundam franchise out of Madoka, he's aiming as high as possible. I can only wish him luck and hope that next seasons are as good as first one. Now, give us some REAL heartwarming SoL, Urobuchi, pretty please.
This news really made my day, one of my favorite anime will last for years, deep inside I thought about it happening, seeing how many possibilities madokaverse creates but I never thought I would hear confirmation so soon. Long live Madoka franchise!

Yes, I dearly want a Slice-of-Life version of Madoka. Besides the Drama CD, the official doujin anthology of Madoka has a lot of great slice-of-life stories too. Even Fate/Stay Night and Tsukihime have Carnival Phantasm for example.

why the hell is everyone saying milking? I for one am happy with the news. Gen must like Madoka same as me to continue working on Madoka some more instead of other animes :3 In case no one knows or went to watch, the DRAMA CD for Madoka was FCKKKING Good! And it was a great slice of life side story to the Madoka series. I'm eager to see Madoka continued.
