According to FUNimation's official press release, FUNimation Entertainment and Niconico have forged a partnership to co-license anime for streaming and video releases under the name Funico. Niconico will be streaming the licensed titles and FUNimation will release the titles on home video.
Funico-licensed titles will have download-to-own options and they also intend to license anime for countries other than just the USA and Canada.
The partnership starts this season with the simulcasting of the following titles:[list][*]
[*]Mirai Nikki (The Future Diary)
[*]Guilty Crown
[*]Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai (Haganai)
[*]Last Exile: Ginyoku no Fam (Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing)
[*]Maken-ki!
[*]Shakugan no Shana III (Final)

Oh, sweet. We can probably expect DVD and BD releases of these great titles from FUNi in 2014 or 2015.

After reading the thread start to finish, I'm a little confused. is the issue some have with streaming that is 'free'? Streaming that maybe isn't totally on the up and up? Or Streaming in general, even if its through a legitimate licensed business like say Netflix just for example?

I know I couldn't have watched as much anime as I have without my Netflix subscription. I've even contemplated paying more just so I can have multiple streams into my house at the same time.

So, uhh, did this fall through already? All the titles, except for Guilty Crown, have been delayed.

Watch this turn annoyingly mainstream in america. Made me sick when it happened with Durarara! and especially Haruhi.

true but doesn't change the fact that whining that you don't get to watch anime for free on an internet forum and shit like that is utterly pathetic in every way (which is still somewhat more justified than complaining about this). I mean, I don't watch every anime I've ever seen in the most legal way all the time, but I'm not complete whiny loser if I can't anymore (which you can if you actually know how to Google, so it's a non-issue anyway)

honestly, I'm amazed the lengths they've gone to listen to fans and actually live in the 21st century.

Pretty freaking sweet.

Great, I'm in the UK so I can't watch Last Exile: Ginyoku no Fam on the stream, and no fansubbers are bothering with it because it's both licensed and not likely to be that popular.

I've been waiting for this series since I heard the announcement...

Grr

So instead of the both of them paying for licenses, they can share series and only pay once.... sounds like a win-win since they can save half the money or license more series. The only people losing out are the studios, since it cuts into their revenue.

This thread is going to end well.

Next stop: Funimation: Please licence The Familliar of Zero season 2, 3 & 4. And release all on BD. :)

They dropped The Familiar of Zero they won't be licensing or dubbing any of the other seasons. Same goes for Higurashi too due to poor sales.

C³, Makin-Ki, Shakugan No Shana, Guilty Crown & Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai..
Awesome these got licenced and normally will get a dvd/BD release. And if all of these get dubbed it will over-the-top awesome. :P

Now I hope we don't have to wait too long on Shakugan No Shana Second.. (Anybody who thinks logical knows if they release the third season/series they just will release the second too.. It would be as stupid as watching only the first and last season of Avatar The Last Airbender.. The second is just as important as the other seasons to knowledge the full story)

Next stop: Funimation: Please licence The Familliar of Zero season 2, 3 & 4. And release all on BD. :)

That's pretty awesome. Hopefully they dub the second season of SNS before the third? That's the logical thing to do.
