Comments: Franken Fran is indeed a love-it-or-hate-it manga. It has a very dark sense of humor behind it and is often gratuitous in it's gore, but it has explicit sexual themes as well. But, personally, I love it. It's hilarious. One reason, being, the main character, Fran. Fran is a doctor, who does thing like stitch two faces together, creates clones and creatures, and so on and so on. What makes her so enjoyable to watch, however, is how filled wit contradictions she is. She is a romantic, often sentimental. Yet gives people a fate worse than death and creates abominations. She would probably smile at people getting tortured, but cries when anyone gives her some sob story. She is naive, contradicting the dark mood and gore set throughout the manga. She is a demented doctor. One hilarious situation being when a bloodthirsty assassin is appalled when Fran stitches a group of people together to make them live. "When I kill someone, I make sure that they die quickly and painlessly" she says, shocked. As if that wasn't enough, Fran goes on a sentimental speech about how everyone is deserving to live, with the mass of stitched-together-people saying "Kill me" in the background. If that doesn't appeal to you, then this isn't your type of manga. As previously said, this manga is very, very gory. But it is exceptionally well-drawn, as is everything else. the author is meticulous in his strive for greatness, in terms of details. Each story is self-contained, and while admittedly, there are a few ones that aren't funny, it always remains enjoyable. Kudos, very enjoyable, very funny, and just plain great.
