Recommendations

Both series star a young woman and take place in a fantasy setting. The main character in each takes charge of her situation and becomes powerful. Each also has a well-developed romance.

If you like Yona, you will absolutely love Basara. Basara is a bit more melodramatic than Akatsuki no Yona but it has that high fantasy traveling adventure theme with the main characters controlling the destiny of their respective kingdoms. Both have very strong female leads.
reportRecommended by layhas
Both mangas have an epic feel to them, and have a similar situation where the male and female lead are supposed to be enemies, but ... somehow aren't? The male characters also seem to have a 'dark side'.
reportRecommended by Breezie-D
Epic stories where an ordinary but strong and charismatic female lead is chosen by a prophecy, thrown into battle and forced to dress as a man to survive

A legendary warrior. Forbidden love. These 2 tittles are scareily similar. The art is also fairly similar. I believe that if you loved one, you'd love the other....

Both have strong female leads however Basara's story is much more dramatic and elongated. Both have romances involving enemies becoming a love interest.

Made by the same author, they share a similar art style and both mangas jump to different views of other characters instead of the point of view of just one. I mostly make this recommendation because the characters share similar personalities and experiences in a post-apocalyptic setting.

Both Basara and FMA are epic fantasy quests filled with loads and loads of characters, lots of travel, political intrigue, and awesome fight scenes. Basara is easily the superior of the two and adds an element of romance, but if you liked one, you should check out the other.

The guy isn't one is actually a girl with a strong look and fighting spirit.

These stories are both about one person being the chosen one and blah blah saves the world, what sets them both apart is that the chosen one isnt exactly shure if they want to save the world or if they are even the right person for the job. They contain alot of twists and are both similarly enjoyable

Both heroines are trying to save people for freedom in a sense. It's a pity OLM is on hiatus mode
reportRecommended by piyopiyo
In both stories a girl pretends to be a guy and she can actually fight fairly well. The girl is also considered to be special and seen as a savior of the people. Both stories are action and adventure and have some romance in them with multiple love interests.
reportRecommended by ChiSquared
Both characters fall in love with the person they really shouldn't.
reportRecommended by anayardz
In both series a young girl has to take responsibility for saving their country by taking the place of an identical boy that people rely on for hope. Sarasa and Freya both go on adventures, gathering allies in order to fight against tyranny.
reportRecommended by angigi
Both of these manga take place in a similar enough setting where there isn't any modern technology. Both also have main characters whose main goal is to eliminate someone who they think is pure evil and who they think is destroying their country. While Basara is much longer and the girl is younger (Ragtonia has adult lead characters, Basara has a teenage lead character), both also have similar themes of losing innocence, bettering oneself, and that nothing is black and white.
reportRecommended by ChiSquared
They both do not really have much in common but they both give out the same feel. A lot of drama and a great tragic romance.
reportRecommended by anayardz
Both have young female leads who are strong heroines and are true to themselves. Both stories have a very well rounded cast of characters and good character development, along with some great anti-heros and epic-adventures
reportRecommended by yourmothersaidno
Both started with the village being destroyed by the enemy. In Crystal Dragon, the main female character was a druid apprentice. While in Basara, the main female took the role of her twin brother. Both girls went on an adventure to take revenge/ fulfill their "destiny", and got into some romance with the main antagonist (aka their enemy). Story-telling style is similar: both have a mystical air.

Reading Joou no Hana reminded me a lot of Basara, since they are both historical mangas with tragic and epic plots. Both have a very brave young girl as protagonist and in both the girl goes though a long journey where she encounters many characters and she deals with political issues. Basara is slightly more epic and old fashioned in the art style while Joou no Hana has a more recent feel, but they're both really great mangas.

Although they might seem to be opposites, both have strong teenaged female leads who initially set out for revenge only to find their goals shaping into something much more powerful/suited to them later on. The romance is slow but very good, and the characters are dynamic with lots of growth and development.

The main characters disguise themselves as men and fight.

Well its alike inthe sense that the two are enemies who fall in love... love both mangas. A must read!!!!

They take the place of their brothers, they fall in love with someone they are not suppose to. But the plot is really different

It may not seem similar, but the interactions between both Rei and Kira resemble those between Shuri and Sarasa. Basara's story is much more large scale, with a large variety of characters, which may give less room for character development, but the romance between Shuri and Sarasa plays a big role. Mars' story is very small-scale and focuses on the relationship between Rei and Kira.

Kaze Hikaru and Basara have a lot of similarities. Both heroine disguises theirselves as a man to avenge their families death. Both is somewhat a historical piece of work. This two series are not to miss if you love shojo, not only shojo, but a series that offers great entertainment and well crafted storyline. Both contains a strong heroine and cast of characters. Both have its share of romance. Not to mention that both are an award winning piece of work. Underhyped that should not be missed. Check it out!

Both of them have the same theme of forbidden love betwen mortal enemies.

Well the two series doesn't have any similarities but they do contain adventures and great character development so I'm recommending that if you read one or the another you might like the other series. So enjoy. Both have great adventure story and of course they both have their fair share of romance.
reportRecommended by chichiriNoDa
These stories have a similar historical flavor about a girl rising from humble origins to become quite powerful in an unfamiliar land, although Basara's land is completely fictional.
reportRecommended by Breezie-D
Both feature strong female leads and slightly twisted male leads that are altered by the experiences they go through with the female lead. Also both have artwork which starts out really rough, but gets progressively better. The two are also from the romantic genre, but other then that, their genres and story lines are VERY different. Basara has a lot more action then Hana Yori Dango, which is purely a romantic tale.
reportRecommended by soaring_wings
1/2 Prince is more humorous, but in both, the girl takes on an identity of a man to fight.
reportRecommended by as3
Both series are written by Tamura Yumi so the artwork and storytelling styles are extremely similar. Since Basara is longer, it is admittedly more developed with a much more complex story line, but Tomoe definitely still holds its own. It has plenty of the trademark strong characters, action, suspense, and depth of a great Tamura Yumi work. Both series are strongly recommended!

Basara is a lot longer, and it has more of a serious plot, but immortal rain is just so cute and funny, that you'll be sure to love it if you like basara
reportRecommended by Rubberducki
Both titles feature star crossed lovers that are meant to be enemies; capable female leads and male lead doesn't inmediately realize that his love interest is also his foe.
reportRecommended by Kojiro_S
The relationship of the two main characters is oh, so similar. Both have historical setting. Both have a strong and smart female lead Both have a strong prideful male lead.
reportRecommended by zybactik
In both: - Heroine grew up in the shadow of her twin brother who was the "chosen one" and so she was ignored by the villagers and only got along with her twin and her guardian. - Heroine replaces her deceased twin brother, assumes his identity and becomes the leader of a war/revolution.
reportRecommended by Orulyon
Both have as main, a girl that lives as a boy and that meets a cheerful guy and they fall in love, without knowing their identities. The guy actually has another personality, a cold one that he uses when he is in front of others. Many war, fights and mostly, a love story~
reportRecommended by Orulyon
When reading Basara it really reminded me of Nausicaa at many moments. Both mangas have an epic feel and really tough heroines. Both are daughters of their villages' chiefs and have an important 'destiny' that involves healing the world after a lot of destruction. Both characters have a cute pet that follows them around. They also are both very charismatic, easily becoming friends with almost everyone. Basara hints at environmental concerns, while Nausicaa makes it one of the main topics of the story. Sarasa is more inclined to fighting that Nausicaa is. Both stories have very emotional moments and a large cast of complex characters. Basara  read more
