Both series are about protagonists who use their spiritual powers to help the living and the recently deceased. Both also start off relatively lighthearted and gradually get darker in tone, though Yami no Matsuei is a lot quicker about it than Tokyo Babylon. The situation between Subaru and Seishirou turns out to have some striking similarities with the Hisoka-Muraki backstory as well.

These two mangas simply have the same feel. Both main characters Cain and Tsuzuki have (or had) a difficult life and are still suffering from it. They are also both saved from this suffering, at least partially, by other characters Riff and Hisoka. Although there isn't a great connection, they simply give me the same feeling when I read them.

I'd recommend Legal Drug because it's pretty much two males partnered up to do mysterious jobs. Both manga has a serious side to the story and a humorous side as well. You can kind of consider both as shounen-ai as well.

Seriously, If you liked one of these two, you HAVE to read the other. They are both about supernatural beings who take care of the souls of the departed. They both have shounen-ai tones, and they both have super cool characters. I love those two mangas.

Light shounen ai/yaoi supported by a solid fantasy story.

Although the plot doesn't have anything in common, the resemblance of the atmosphere, the character grouping and the caracters' personalities is too good to pass :) Enjoy them both!

KtN likely took some inspiration from YnM. Ikuta has goofy mannerisms that hide a painful past like Tsuzuki. Hisui is "special" and alternatively sweet and abrasive like Hisoka (but less extreme); both need the other's protection, but want to become more useful. Matsushita claims YnM is not BL, yet loaded it with rather unsubtle subtext. KtN is similar in that it the characters seem straight, yet it often veers a little too far over that bromance line.

Okay, arguably these series are probably completely different from each other. But it's the small elements that can make it attracting to fans of one of these titles for the other. Elements including bishounen, mentor to student relationships, shounen-ai undertones and an engaging and supernatural plot (mostly fantasy in the case of Demon Diary though) underlining both of the series.

Both have Shinigami and a sort of detective story, but that's the only real similarity. Style and tone are entirely different.
