Mai-chan's Daily Life (Manga)

Mai-Chan's Daily Life - one of the most notorious erotic-grotesque (commonly abbreviated 'ero-guro', or simply just 'guro') manga series of all time. I will put this as a fair warning - this manga is not for the faint of heart. Now, onto the review.

Story (9/10)- Well, the story in and of itself isn't that good, but the premise of the main character - Mai, is. She cannot die. She is stuck in a whorehouse for wealthy loons and sexually humiliated and dismembered daily. Sounds run of the mill? Well, I guess maybe it is, but it is executed quite well. The whole 'she-can-never-die' thing really was done well in this series, and I have never seen it before. Really the plot/story don't matter because when you read guro you want to see two things; sex and gore. These both are present. Add a well executed 'super power' of sorts for the main character, and bam, you got a 9 out of 10 for the story.

Art (9/10)- Uziga Waita has always been a good artist, but in this manga he really shines. Everything is extremely detailed, but not to the point where you feel that you are being overwhelmed. For such a far-fetched story, the gore and sexual organs of the characters are actually portrayed rather realistically. Really my only complaint is that sometimes he shadded a bit too much and it made it hard to tell what he was drawing, but that only happens once or twice, and doesn't spoil anything.

Character (4/10)- Nothing special. Except for Mai-Chan, every other character is pretty much stock. Of all the girls in the manga, Mai-chan is the only one who actually managed to look hot. Not impressive for a guro manga. I guess it is about average in this field.

Enjoyment (9/10) - What can I say, I enjoy a good shock. This manga delievered some shocks. Oh, and did I mention that the final chapter is actually so shocking/awesome/famous that it has become a internet meme? Oh, well it has.

Thanks to my having just discovered Guro two hours ago, I can now say that I doubt I'll ever be able to look at hentai the same way again. This manga is easily the most messed up thing I have ever had the misfortune to read. I curse my curiosity begging me to read on and finish this.
I'm usually really open to weird crazy fetishes. Bonding? sure why not. yuri/yaoi? Not my thing but whatever. Rape? Lolicon? Furry? Whatever, if somebody wants to wank to that stuff then go for it.
But this is where I have to draw the line. I am not at all okay with the idea of somebody looking at this manga and getting turned on. I hope I never ever meet a single one of those people in real life.
