Self-styled Kogal queen Kotobuki Ran and her friends just wanna have fun, which includes shopping, hanging out, and scamming meals off gullible guys. Unfortunately, their "hood"—Shibuya—is in constant danger of being despoiled by dirty old men, street gangs, nasty Kogal rivals, and other societal evils. But with a little help from her friends and a toughness born of coming from a family full of cops, Ran takes on the bad guys (and gals) with gusto!

I honestly loved it at first. I even read the first three volumes at least three times. But as it progressed, it started to get bad for me and by the end of the fourth volume i completely lost interest and dropped it. I'm not saying it's a bad manga. I only lost interest because I didn't like who Ran ended up with. I'd been cheering for her to end up with Rei. Aside from that, it's a good read. It's packed with comedy and romance.

Manga: Kechonpa
They both feature a really eccentric gyaru who, not only does she solve the occasional mystery, but they also have close ties to the police force. Kechonpa is more mature, and heavy-handled (especially with it's dialogue), while GALS! is a light shoujo.

Manga: W-Pinch!!
The art style is similar. You know the old timish style where all the characters look the same except for the hair and feminine/masculine features. Also, I'd say Arisa (the alter ego) and Ran are alike except Arisa picks on people for no reason at all.

Manga: Gal Samurai
Similar to the point that some may suspect that Gal Samurai is a rip-off, both manga star a kogal who's ready to kick butt and take names.
