Togari (Manga)

Story:
Togari is a dark story about a man (Tobei) whose spirit is trying to break free from hell. The story revolves around the sins of man and the idea of fighting evil with evil. Everything develops in time and you wont feel at a loss for what is going on while reading. The story is solid, entrancing, and sometimes cruel.

Art:
The art isn't extravagent but when there are action scenes you get a good feel for the movement of everything. Solid but not special in this department.

Character:
Tobei, our main character, feels very much human in the course of the story. He is an individual driven solely for his purposes and really comes to life and develops. However, some other characters can feel a little choppy at times. The main cast is solid but there are some weak links when you look past the front lines in the character department. Overall it is good.

Enjoyment:
Oh yea! Seconds please. If you like dark story plots, blood spraying, and some messed up sinning then you'll get your fill with this devil of a manga. I recommend to anyone intrigued to check it out because it wont disappoint.

• When I was reading Togari, it was giving the impression that the author was trying to give the reader a sense of either wanting dark or light. It started out dark and mysterious, the character being a murderer made it unique and yet confusing because you want to see how far he can go although you know it's wrong. Of course I would of loved if this continued but as always, the typical shounen genre arises. Justice, Friends, Protect, all these things just steadly jump out one after the other like someone waiting to ambush you. It's ashame really that it couldn't keep the pace it was with but it doesn't really matter that much since the story still turned out ok.

The art was really unique. At most times it was great and did not disappoint then at other times I could see repeated drawings from the past or perhaps groggy style drawings that hurt my eyes when trying to look at it. I give the artist my dues, it was great but it could of been alittle better. I only really found one character amazing and unique and that's that protagonist "Tobei". His unique way of thinking and his will to survive just made him all the more amazing, making me want to read more. Of course like I said before, this didn't last long for as the typical shounen genre also invaded his characteristics. You also had your other charcters like your demons, angels, detectives, bums and even a seperate organisation. It was a decent variety and kept me interested so in the end, it wasn't half bad.

I guess you could say at the beginning whilst I was reading this, it was really enjoyable since it gave me that sense of darkness and evil. Then during the middle my enthusiastic tone went down a notch and thus came to the end. The ending revived my opinion so I would say it did have some faults but overall I enjoyed reading it and you should give it a go too. If there was a sequel I probably would read it. read more
