Yoru Made Matenai (Manga)

Yoru Made Matenai is basically your average Shoujo manga about a girl and a boy, who's relationship has many obstacles. The only twist (which isn't a very original twist, to be honest) is that they're siblings. Step-siblings, to be exact. And there's a six years difference between them. At first, it seems a bit gross, and in fact, it still sorta is. The heroine of this series, Haruka, is a high school student, while Tsukasa is a Elementary student (but eventually becomes a Middle School as the story progresses.) It isn't so much that they're step-brother and step-sister that really bothers me, but the age difference. I know that they used to say that love has no bounds, and I'm all for it, but I really do have to say that the six year age difference really was too much. Perhaps three to four would've been a bit better, but that's just me.

The story isn't all that original. And it has a tendency to repeat itself. Haruka would see Tsukasa with another girl, and find herself jealous, and "afraid" that he would leave her for a girl his age. Hurt, she would try and distance herself from him, and thus hurting Tsukasa's feelings. And then, eventually, Haruka would go find Tsukasa and apolgoize and they'd make it and everything's all sweet and nice. And at first it was sweet and nice...until I notice how it just kept repeating and repeating itself over and over again. It got boring, and fast. There were SOME development in the plot, but not much. It sorta hit a dead end early on in the series. So I'd give it a 4. It's decent, but the plot really needs some improvement.

The art was probably one of the biggest turn off's for me at first. And I was really close to putting it down, but because the summary seemed so interesting, I decided to give it a try. As I read, I got used to the art, and eventually, I started to kinda like it. It really isn't the best, but it isn't the worst. Most of the characters are drawn rather well, but for some reason, Haruka, the heroine of this story, is probably the least-well drawn character in my opinion. Most of the time, it looks like the author only took about a minute or two to draw her.

Art is, of course, subjective, so you can't really take my word for it. I do like the art, but at the same time, I also dislike. So I'd give it a 6.

The characters were pretty lacking at first, and they still are. I'd expect some kind of development, but I recieved none. Maybe there was some inbetween the pages, because like they say, love can change a person, but for me, I saw no development. But then again, the manga didn't really focus on their characters, but rather their "forbidden relationship" and yada yada. Even so, without some kind of character development, a manga can not go far, so I'd have to give it a 3.

Even though this manga probably isn't the greatest series ever, and lacked A LOT, I would have to say I did enjoy reading this. Sometimes, you just read and not really have to think about it. If you're reading this series, while picking out all its' faults, you won't really enjoy yourself. (You should do it AFTER you finish.) Having said that, for those who just want a nice, fun read, without a complex plot or something really dramatic or angty, happening, this might be the manga for you.

Overall, I'd give it a 6. If I were to judge it critically, I'd probably give it a 3 or 4. But as a reader, who just wanted a nice read, I give it a 6, because I did enjoy reading this, even with all its' faults. It's not something I'd re-read, but I would recommend it to my friends and anyone who's bored. And I've learned an important lesson after reading this: Even if the art sucks, just keep reading, because the art does get better, you will eventually get used to it, and you just might end up enjoying yourself.

ok this was fairly a good anime. i love the way the author Saki Oota. drew the boys. they are soooo cute x33. lol well this about a girl named Haruka, whos dad is to remarry. and so she meets her new step brother.Tsukasa. he's sooo fricken cute. and first he's all nice and sweet, like a simple nice new lil bro. but whats really goin on is that he likes her. and it's really cute. he's 6 tears younger than her thought, he's in elementry school!!! lol but still really cute. i gave character a 4 cause the main girl kepy makin me mad, they star datin but, she still holds back cause he's 6 years older.. when u get to the end of it.. it really gets sooo anoyin that u dont even wanna read it cause of her.. i bet she put alot of stress on that boy. i just wanted to hug him at times.. but i enjoyed it alot. i love they story, and overall it was fair. x3 read more
