Story: 8
The story ha snothing special about it. A typical manga about a student's life mixed up with attention from the media, jealous female students with raging hormones, a cousin who wants to be seen as an adult, and a guy who saves the day.Its another shoujo manga. But somehow, when i finished this manga, I wasn't really satisfied because, I wanted the story to continue, I fell in love with the overused plot and I just couldn't put the book down. Throughout the manga, the author has side notes, talking about her current addictions. Though there isn't any 'breaking the third wall' among the characters which is a method I really enjoy, she still manages to connect with the reader, and she's very humble. The story layout is very simple and should I say carefree. Its a really easy read without much intensity within it. A rather relaxing piece of work.
Art: 9
I'm not too particular about most art in mangas. In fact, my main concern is how the mangaka differentiates one character from another which she has done very well especially on Izumi's features. There are clearly times when Hikaru is drawn as the male component while Izumi as the female component which kinda destroy most shoujo manga cliches
Character: 10
The characters are so lovable. It really makes you wanna root for their love. Kudos to the mangaka for creating a lead female who is strong and isn't a retarded, dependent, annoying, air-headed girl which is found in many shoujo mangas.I honestly appreciate her silence. You can actually say, that the roles of the characters are switched because both characters portray personalities of the opposite gender. Izumi is seen as a more feminine while Hikaru is a strong opinionated male. However, both character's feminine and masculine sides are very well balanced.
Enjoyment: 10
I absolutely love gender benders not because of the comedy, but because of the vulnerability of the characters and when it is threatened, the characters take the most extreme measures to cover it up. ( I think it only happened twice)
Another reason is because we, the reader aren't left in the dark and seeing their genders being kept a secret really is out main interest.(that's why I dropped Girl meets Girl) And being caught up in the whole mess just makes you want more.
Overall: 8
This manga loses on its originality but then, when it comes to gender bender, I honestly just wanna see them make out, (I'm a little biased cause I didn't get to see more than a kiss) hide their secrets and fool everyone (suckers). And this manga has a more valid reason for a person to switch genders than most mangas which might make sense, might. I liked how the author ended it but I give it an '8' because I want MORE of it. I want to see everyone's reaction but that would just ruin the sweetness of it. I guess its up to my imagination to satisfy my lust.

i was looking so hard for this manga and i finally found it, so when i started
reading it i was so hooked that i finished it in one day, i think that the reason
why i liked a lot this manga is because it's not too dramatic, the main character is also simple mind, funny and makes you like her because she's not annoying it's not one of that shoujo mangas where the main female it's stupid and foolish and have the dream of being at the top of the world, the main male it's full of pride but at the same time he is kind and caring. the story it's simple, it's not too troublesome and it's easy to understand the situation, it's funny and the supporting characters are also simple and cool. other thing that i liked about it, it's that the story have as topic the bullying and im not saying that it's a very original topic because there are a lot of mangas that also use this topic but i think it was good because they werent too dramatic, plus is a real situation how far can a person go just for jealousy.
but the main point it's that you enjoy reading it, because it doesn't gets boring and each chapter it's different.
so if you have time you really should read this manga, you won't regret it.

This is a cute gender-bending manga set in the idol/entertainment world. Both of the main characters are very likable and supporting characters are abundant but easy to follow and keep track of.
I found that each volume moved well but always concluded on a good note so that you're not left with too much of a suspenseful cliff-hanger. The overall story follows Hikaru and Izumi's relationship as antagonists. They do eventually tolerate each other as well as become friends and ultimately realize their love for each other.
Izumi's boy/girl looks were very distinguishable. Reminded me of Yellow Belmont in Genesis Mospeada. Very convincing and very well illustrated. I enjoyed him the most from the series.
I highly recommend this title to those who are interested in gender bender titles like W-Juliet or Never Give Up. read more

So, I won't bother writing a synopsis because 1) Duh it's already provided near the top of this page and 2) The tips and guidelines say not to XD
Okay, so starting off with the story, I rate it overall as a 9. I mean sure there have been countless of manga that have done the whole "boy cross-dressing as a girl to become famous then falls in love with the girl who discovers his secret" (e.g. Nousatsu Junkie) but from my perspective, Tenshi Ja Nai was able to turn a "cliche" into something (somewhat) original. The story was very cute. It was long enough to keep me enjoyed/ craving more, but was also short enough to keep my interest peeked (and not put me to sleep).
For the art, I also give it a 9. Although that's probably me just being too lazy to click the number 10. Actually, now that I look back on it the artwork sorta reminded me of how Yoshiki Nakamura does her artwork. I try to not be too picky about the artwork (because it's normally not that big a deal) but with this particular manga, it wasn't really a problem. The artwork was really beautiful .
Character would also be an 8. The one thing I can't STAND in any kind of romance related manga, is when the lead heroine is a big wimp. I mean sure, I can tolerate it on some occasions but I generally prefer when the heroine is either a low-key bad-A, downright strong, or at least has strong confidence (like Tsukasa from Tokyo Crazy Paradise). Thankfully, Hikaru seemed to fit well into one of the previous categories. She may not have been outrageously strong physically but she was definitely no pushover. Throughout the story, you see character development within nearly every charrie. There wasn't any particular character who I found to be boring or "plain", but each character had a unique personality and were very entertaining to read about (especially Sumikko XD!)
Enjoyment was also a 9 (but I'm getting too tired to write about that).
Overall I would give this manga a score of a 9. It wasn't an "oh my gum this is the best thing I've read EVER. I'd die if I never got a chance to read this" 10, but it was very very worth the read. The characters were interesting and entertaining and the story and art were great as well! I would highly recommend this for someone searching for a nice romantic comedy (with a nice amount of drama) to read as a time filler (like if you're waiting for the next chapter release of another manga).
Sorry this review was so long, but I hope you enjoyed it. If not....(hey it was only my opinion) =^_^= read more

Love, Love, Love!
This was an awesome manga to read! I honestly read it when I had time in a few days.
A romantic love triangle between a male teacher, a female student, and a female idol, who is actually a guy.
There are some interesting plot twists that I honestly didn't expect. (With the teacher and student.)
I don't reallly wanna reveal all even though I want to, so your mission is to go on ahead and start reading this manga right now. You'll be hook since chapter one, I promise you won't regret it!!!!

I just finished reading so I am still geeked about this one. Here goes!
This is now my new favorite manga. I read the first chapter online and was so hooked that i bought the rest of the volumes.
This story is a really sweet romance, thats not described in kiddy terms (i.e. i like you, do you like me?). The author allows the love between the two main characters to grow, develop, become jealous, and flicker throughout the series. I loved how thoughful the author was to not make the romance of high school kids too adult. Each volume leads to the next so you just keep reading and reading, so additctive. The story line is similar make up to w-juliet and never give up. It gives a lot of situations within entertainment but its not based on that (like in w-juliet). The story is about the development and love life of a girl who has no self worth, and how the boy she loves allows her to stand on her own proudly. There isnt much humor so if you are looking for comedy this one isnt for you; a wonderful romance read not too heavy on the drama, light but no fluff with some occasional pg -13 moments. I loved it. read more
