No Side is an entertaining gender bender sports comedy series that centers among a player named Yuuji willing to help his rugby team end its long term image of being a joke, despite the fact he acquires a girl's body (Akane Himekami) in spirit. While the story setting seems ridiculous, this manga brought along many promising results that may surprise its readers.
There are a couple of areas that I found the story very entertaining. One area involves Yuuji learning how to commence his respect to the girl who has just passed away from her body. It is at that point Yuuji understands
that his spirit will only borrow the girl's body for a short time. As for the other area, it involves the events happening among the rugby team. Even though Yuuji as a girl becomes a factor in helping, the team improves greatly as a core in competing against other teams. To myself, I found this part very unique to the story because it feels like I'm watching a famous sports movie. Also while the story progresses, readers will come to learning the rules of rugby in case they are unfamiliar with the sport.
As for the characters, I find them refreshing because others besides Yuuji play out a necessary part to the story. With the situation of the team improving, there are new members being added to the rugby team and each of them provides a special talent that becomes crucial in playing games. Also, I enjoy the characteristics coming from each of the new characters because they are often seen as entertaining or hilarious at certain points of the story. Still even though the team looks strong as a core to readers, there are several obstacles they will have to overcome so it shows their signs of vulnerability.
The artwork also does pretty good in some areas of the manga. Once the story begins, readers may need some time in getting used to the character designs since they tend to look rough in their imaging. One great result from the artwork would involve the illustrations playing out a necessary role in No Side. Some of the illustrations that are featured bring out a side of intensity and competitiveness that comes from the game of rugby itself.
Overall, I would recommend No Side to those that are willing to read a good story whether they are fans of rugby or sports fans in general.
*Be warned though, there is a bit of sexual content in this manga.
