Having enjoyed the wonders of Witch Hat Atelier as much as I have, I felt inclined to explore Kamome Shirahama’s older works, and she certainly doesn’t disappoint.
The plot of Eniale & Dewiela follows our titular characters – an angel from Heaven and a demon from Hell, respectively – through their lackadaisical tales of shenanigans and hijinks. not nearly as bold in its paneling/layout as Witch Hat Atelier, Enidewi is well-crafted, refined, and wonderfully fitting for a story depicting angels and demons.
Eniale and Dewiela are strong characters for a story of this type, and the structure of each plotline is greatly supported by the unique setting and world. Borrowing from elements of Christianity, Buddhism, and others, Shirahama makes great use of these religious concepts to establish the dichotomy of Eni and Dewi’s “frenemy” relationship, and this extends to a diverse cast of supporting characters and plot points. It's a bit disappointing however, that the story ends before it finds its footing in what it wants to be; before it figures out who it's for. Despite that, there's a lot to enjoy here.
Short, sweet, and exuding charm and glamor, Enidewi is an easy recommendation. Thanks for reading, much love. ✧∘*
