SynopsisThe series Junjou Romantica series actually contain 3 main stories within them, which are loosely interconnected, with different couples as the main characters.
Junjou Romantica:
Misaki, struggling to pass his college entrance exams, is in need of a tutor to help pump up his failing grades. Unfortunately, his only option is the cool and sexy Akihiko Usami. Usami happens to be a famous boys’ love novelist, which doesn’t exactly float Misaki’s boat, especially since his main characters are “Akihiko” and “Takahiro,” the name of Misaki’s older brother and Usami’s childhood friend. Understandably, Misaki is pretty disgusted by the thought of someone using his older brother as his personal fantasy-material, but then after some tender loving from Usami, Misaki is also pretty confused. He may even be developing feelings for the older man...And when Takahiro introduces them to his lovely (female) fiancée, so begins the bumpy relationship of this odd couple, filled with comedy and pure romance. Junjou Egoist: Kamijou Hiroki is a broken man, consumed by unrequited love for his childhood friend, Usami Akihiko (the writer character in Junjou Romantica). Along comes Kusama Nowaki, whose name "Nowaki" means "typhoon", an orphan working his way through life since middle school. Like the typhoon he is named for, he whirls into Hiroki's life and heart, blowing all resistance away before him.
Junjou Terrorist: As fate would have it, Professor Miyagi Yoh (whom Hiroki is working with as assistant professor), and Takatsuki Shinobu, a high school student, cross paths. Miyagi, when in high school, loved (and still cannot forget) a female teacher who had a terminal illness, is now faced with Shinobu, who just says whatever is on his mind. The wheel of destiny is beginning to turn once again...
Has another short story called Junjou Minimum in vol. 4, which in turn has a separate volume of its own.

I most definetly like the way the whole plot is settled up. Although it gets a little confusing with the multiple stories featured in every volume, because of the outward semblance of some characters. Usually I'm not fond of sudden changes of place and protagonists in manga, but I guess that these aversenesses disappear at some point, as you get way to cought up in the individual relationships. The concept of the three seemingly different tales meshing togehter is another (more or less) rare occurrence.
The only thing that bothers me are the characters themselves. They're all made to a certain scheme that is already cliche in the world of yaoi. The typical macho, the one who denies his feelings, a rejected one... nothing really new comes along with it.
Both ukes, Hiroki and Misaki, act extremely hysterical and the whole 'No, Stop it! I don't want to...' is just the usual teasing that no one would take as dead serious. On the other hand we've got their counterparts, Akihiko and Nowaki, who act mostly calm and obviously too straight forward. That contrast makes the whole story more interesting. The Junjo Terrorist couple is a little different from the other two, Romantica and Egoist, which gives variety to the whole plot.
As for the artwork. I am sort of torn between liking it and hating it. A lot of scenes are drawn so cute, irresistible and full of love. And then during other parts I simply want to cut them out of the manga! The proportions (head:body and head:hands) are so miserably extreme at times, that it gets almost unbearable...
I guess the humor makes up for some of the mistakes.
But all in all Junjo Romantica is entertaining and Yaoi-fans should be able to enjoy this series (especially because it contains a lot of [almost completely] explicit sexual interaction *wink*). read more

Well its slightly confusing switching between the different stories at first but you get used to it. It is clever in the way that it tells three different stories about three different relationships, but they are all interlinked in some way.
Its quite funny to read in some places, rude in another and then fluffy in another! It is enjoyable to see Misaki try and pretend he doesn't want Akihiko, when he has clearly fallen head over heels. As Akihiko is a romance novelist, there are snippets from his novel which describes (in great detail) his fantasy's about Misaki.
It is overall very enjoyable.

Can't believe this hasn't been done. Both of the semes are arrogant romance novelists and both stories are extremely funny, though Junjou isn't quite as insane as Gravitation.

The stories are similiar when you look at the personages (writing love stories and such).
Note; when you take the length of the stories in consideration you'd know you'd like Junjou Romantica when your fond of Soft Romantic. Don't think so the other way round though. Reading would go downhill that way.
