SynopsisSupernatural phenomena and strange occurrences are no sweat for the Nanami Paranormal Investigation agency, headed by Asagi Nanami. As "freak" activity grows to a terrifying fever pitch, Asagi's assistants—Naoki, Tokiko, and Mahime—help to solve several major "freak" cases. Freaks are creatures with the ability to possess humans and prey on their weaknesses. However, Asagi and his gang are no ordinary humans; each is equipped with a special power to vanquish Freaks. Wacky paranormal adventures await!
BackgroundOnly the first three volumes of Category:Freaks were published in English by Dr. Master Productions from July 1, 2005 to January 1, 2007 before the company became defunct.
Humans like us always desires somethings... something within us that draws a line between good and bad... and we always will cross that line but for the better or for worse? Something we desire so great that we get effected by it... but what draws us to it? That thing that pulls us in will also have that same feeling...
A 'Freak' is what you may call it that will pull us in to get what we want that we desire the most. It's as if, it's not us that really wants it but them that badly needs it. They will take control of us and posses us until they get what 'they want', that is what these 'Freaks' do, they target our weaknesses.
What could stop these 'Freaks'? Well we have the 'Nanami Paranormal Investigation agency' that will stop the 'Freaks' from getting too powerful but... can humans stop them, well that's the point, they aren't.
As we witness the battle between the 'Freaks' and the Nanami investigators, we go through cases that they take to protect the humans.
We see deep into the souls of 'Freaks' and we get to understand what they are going through. Maybe they are just hating, in pain, sorrow, jealousy, pleasure... the darkness deep within the 'Freaks' are pitiful, however we can connect to them... we also have desires or dreams of our own...
Now about the Namami investigators... they are not just your normal investigators neither are some of them human. However they will protect us with what ever power they have that is kept a secret. We aren't given big loads of info on them but we can guess what they really want or do that is.
This manga is a deserve read with a warning to mild nudity that isn't stated. I'm really enjoying this manga and would really like to read more of it. The plot is pretty simple once you read it.
If you are into supernatural phenomena and strange happenings with a tingle of horror i suggest you give this manga a try. read more
These enthrilling manga share a very similar plot, as they both revolve around demons (respectively called Freaks & Tsumitsuki) which feed on a person's negative feelings (sins, guilt, stress, murderous intents, perversions, etc) and, as they grow, possess those people's body, soul and mind, which leads to that person's violent death.
Asagi Nanami & Kuroe are both mysterious, at times eerie guys who hunt those creatures with their supernatural powers.
Both manga are dark, unique, and great.
Both are great supernatural/horror/mystery manga about a secret agency (Venus Vanguard/Nanami Paranormal Investigation Agency) that hunts and kills demonic creatures.
Horror/thriller/supernatural manga with a peculiar art style, a charming cast of characters, and tons of similarities.
Both involve a secret agency (Z-Loan/Asagi Paranormal Investigation Agency) whose aim is to exterminate creepy creatures (zombies/freaks), obviously not for free.
The agency's office is full of unique people, such as a despotic non-human boss (Bekko/Nanami Asagi), a pretty girl with a split personality (Koyomi Yoimachi & Yomi/Mahime Yoshino & Yahiro), a computer freak (Yuuta/Ayu), and a megane student who's basically the only normal person in the office (Michiru Kita/Naoki Amano).
Both manga also have action, blood, mystery, drama, comedy, a rival office of the main agency, and gay characters.
