SynopsisSasshi's world is in disarray. His best gal pal, Arumi, is about to move away, and his Osaka neighborhood is being demolished in the name of urban renewal.
However, this little neighborhood has some surprises under its concrete—it's actually a portal to parallel universes. And when this section of the city is leveled, the portal is cracked wide open. Sasshi and Arumi soon find themselves being hurtled from one strange world to the next! Making matters even more surreal, is the fact that these worlds seem to spoof and mock popular movies, video games, manga and anime!

I was plesantly surprised by this manga (I'm not calling it a series, since it's only two volumes long). The humor is a bit absurd but translates well alll the same, and it's plot doesn't get to bogged down (except just before the ending for a bit). Truth be told, there's nothing that exceptional about it: characters are colorful (a few are annoyingly so) but fairly normal, and the premise is pretty common actually. Still, it manages to pull everything off with good results, and the ending, while a tad sudden, is satisfying. The manga actually seems to benefit from being so short. Had it been longer, I imagine things getting diluted and derivative. Rather, being only two volumes long, there's a franticly crowded atmosphere which lends itself to quick reading and rereading. Not the deepest of manga (unless you like fanservice, both trivial and ecchi), it accomplishes what it strives successfully, certainly more so than many of its peers. read more

Both have slapstick and gags all over the place. I laughed out loud when reading them both. Only difference is Abenobashi is a lot shorter so if you're looking for a quick laugh check that one out. Hamelin has a little bit more story since it spans to 37 volumes.
