Alright at first I need to say, this is one of my fav manga's but I will judge pretty strict so...

Story:
At first a normal story will start, well it's what you call normal I mean who meets a princess from a other planet, well Rito does meet the beautiful Lala Satalin, who did run away from a marriege on her own planet, when she knows him better she falls in love with him... but Rito falls for Haruna, a shy girl that he knows from when he was little... after some chapters this story will a little disappear and there will be random story's about ... there live...

Art:
Whoot I love this art, and I need to say it's something I don't think about mutch manga, the only think I dislike about it is how the eicchi parts are drawed but it's still good...

Character:
Lala the pink haired princess from a other planet is like allot other maincharacters, a hyper girl who falls in love. Rito is also a clunzy boy who loves somebody else. Haruna the girl he likes is pretty shy... the story is a little about these 3 in common but look also at the other character which you will love: Ren, Mikan, Yami, Yui, Peke... all these characters are unique in there own way even thought you will see allot old things coming back... nothing bad to say about

Enjoyment:
It's a eicchi manga, which I dislike the most time BUT this one I really could enjoy mutch, it's funny in it's own way even with all the random story's which are in it, I think if you like how the characters are in there own way which will let you enjoy the manga very mutch.

Overal:
A must read for eicchi fans (which I'm not), but also a try to read for people who love comedy... I said before this is one of me fav manga's so I would love to give it a 10 but I gave it only a 8...

To-LOVE-Ru is a Harem, Sci-fi, Romantic, Comedy that gives off the initial feel of an idiotic Rom/Com nevertheless it is still an entertaining read. If you feel like having a laugh then this never-ending manga is worth checking out.

It’s basically about a high school boy (Rito Yuuki) who is forced into becoming a marriage candidate for an alien girl (Lala). It begins with him protecting her from the various marriage candidates’ confrontations but soon after that finishes, the story moves onto the typical high school Rom/Com, full of idiotic sci-fi elements and every shounen Rom/Com cliché imaginable (e.g. misunderstandings). Sure if you enjoy these type ... of dragged out Rom/Com storylines or haven’t really read any, then there’s a high chance you’ll enjoy this one but many experienced manga readers will get bored quick. Yet there are always a few laughs to be found in every chapter.

In the beginning, the artwork is probably the weakest aspect of the manga, as it looks just “plain”. No effort is put towards the character designs and also the background art was dull and geometric. Things do improve as you go along; especially in the detailed environments and the girls, who are the source of some real good fanservice.

The characters are pretty typical for a shounen Rom/Com like the male protagonist Rito Yuuki, the pathetic teenage boy who’s the butt of many jokes and physical beatings (where have I seen this before?). Haruna Sairenji the love interest and Lala the gorgeous alien girl, with her many wacky gadget. What’s more is that there’s a whole cast of other characters that just spawn out of nowhere to fill in numerous criteria like Yami-chan (cute silent type). Sure they all have cliché personalities but there should at least be one character for each reader to enjoy.

Overall To-LOVE-Ru is just basically the same old typical Rom/Com any experienced anime/manga lover is familiar, but with a sci-fi theme. The story is fairly predictable and easy to follow but the sci-fi theme helps add an element of unpredictability, seeing how anything can randomly happen. There are a few interesting developments and laughs to be had but I can honestly say that I have read better ones than this.

I first started reading this manga about a year ago. I finished the anime (which sucked, by the way), and I saw that there was a "readaptation," Motto To LOVE-Ru, that followed the manga more faithfully, which sparked my interest in reading the manga. I walked into the manga, not expecting much, and the first few chapters were closely related to the first anime. I dropped the manga for a year after being disappointed, thinking it wouldn't change. I recently picked it up again and actually read the entire series in less than two weeks. Let me explain why I became obssesed with such a ... simple manga.

Story

There's not much to it. Rito is surrounded by many attractive girls who all like him for their own reasons and he gets caught in various accidental scenarios involving boob touching, ass grabbing, etc. For the most part, it consists of episodic chapters, focusing on random comedic situations, or archs that are about 2-3 chapters long that are more concetrated on developing characters. There aren't many words on the pages, making for an easy read. It's not the strongest feature, so don't be reading this for a deep story with complicated plot twists.

Art

The art is amiable, with playfulness eminating from almost every page. Rito's faces are drawn perfectly to capture the effect of his comedic accidents. All the girls have cute designs and each one is unique and pleasing to look at. The ecchi scenes are top tier, abundant in every chapter, and are portrayed expertly. They vary in positions and the way they happen. Characters are rarely seen not blushing, always giving you the essence of "love in the air." The quality is consistant with only a few drops usually small enough to be overlooked. I just wish I could find better scans, though, so I could see it at its best all the time.

Chararcter

The characters were one of the most striking elements of To LOVE-Ru. Rito starts out as your typical wimpy kid who can't even stand the sight of his crush in a bikini without losing his head. However, he grows and matures into a brave and endearing person as we progress. Lala is always joyful and spacey (no pun intended), but is also caring an considerate towards her friends. Haruna is a shy girl who grows outgoing and strong, just as Rito does. The plethora of supporting characters all get their moment to shine as well, moving forward and growing together. This surprised me, as harems usually tend to overgo the development of the supporting cast; this manga faithfully and actively includes many of the characters so they seem less like cute cardboard cutouts that just follow Rito.

Enjoyment

This is one of the most enjoyable manga I have read in a while. It is lighthearted and always lively, making me flip page after page for hours on end. Comedic scenes were reused, but they never weren't funny or took away from the experience. I often discovered I was smiling while I was reading, actually.

Overall

To LOVE-Ru is one of the most entertaining harems you will read. The characters set it apart from the crowd and the ecchi scenes bring a perverted grin to your face. When the manga ended, I felt almost melancholy to depart from the characters and the world that was shaped around them. I would recommend this to mostly guys who are looking for a great harem that you can't help but smile at and say, "Thanks for the good times."

After finishing Black Cat, I decided to check out some of Yabuki Kentaro's other works. Since I never found Yamato Gensouki, I figured I'd settle for To-LOVE-Ru, even though he only did the artwork and the premise was practically a carbon copy of Urusei Yatsura's.
To be honest, I actually found the first few dozen chapters to be fine. The jokes were largely hit-or-miss, but Yabuki's artwork and the chemistry between the characters kept me reading. All-in-all, it was a typical ecchi harem that didn't really wear out its welcome.
But then, at some point, writer Hasemi Saki lost steam. Her jokes grew more and more bland, ... losing any semblance of charm there may have been early on. In addition, what little drama there was, she didn't handle very well. Two scenarios in particular (Lala and Haruna becoming rivals but remaining friends, and Rito realising that he has feelings for both of them instead of just Haruna) could've been really good for character development, but their potential is squandered in her hands.
Overall, the series never rises above mediocrity after its initial stretch. Yabuki's artwork is great and the fanservice is fine, but Hasemi never exploits any of her good ideas and her humour becomes repetitive and dull far too quickly. The ending is also extremely abrupt, and is ultimately an unsatisfying conclusion to an unsatisfying series.
I personally wouldn't recommend it to anybody except die-hard ecchi fans.

To Love-Ru is one of those series I always eagerly wait for to be released, simply because it has a high enjoyment value, mostly because of the comedy, and on top of that loads of fanservice, which gets even better because of the incredibly good art style. That said, I must say that it doesn't go any further than that. Even though the art is great and enjoyment value is high, the story lacks enormously and I also don't notice a lot of character development. Sure there's story, sure there's character development, but it's all very weak and minimal. Though, both these factors are not ... something you'll be thinking about a lot while reading To Love-Ru, which practically is the case with all ecchi manga.

So, do I recommend this manga? If you're a fan of ecchi and don't mind lacking story and character development for this genre, I definitely do.

i like the come back of Eve as Yami in the manga, and Kyoko as the magical kyoko.
i think, To-Love-Ru has a great story, art, and characters that is ejoyable to see and look at closely.

To LOVE-Ru serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump from April 2006 to August 2009. To LOVE-Ru is a Harem, Ecchi, Romance and Comedy manga that is well known to this day. The story is written by Hasemi Saki and the art is drawn by Yabuki Kentarou, which is the same artist as the Black Cat manga series.

I first heard of To LOVE-Ru a long time ago on an anime recommendations video on youtube. But, I don't really listen to recommendations, as opinions differ and I don't think that the reasons he listed would make me like it. But, almost a year later, I started reading the ... manga of To LOVE-Ru.

That was a week, no, rather, 5 days ago. I read the manga of To LOVE-Ru, and it's sequel, To LOVE-Ru: Darkness within these 5 days. I caught up to Darkness today and I enjoyed the series despite it's heavy themes of ecchi. The characters and art style to the manga are great and it makes me honestly think that the artist used to be a hentai artist. He's very great at drawing, well, breasts, and very great at trolling us by not letting us see what's underneath.

The story to To LOVE-Ru... well, there kinda ain't one. A teenage boy named Yuuki Rito is just relaxing in the bath, having a nice peaceful bath, looking at the ceiling which is very amazing and detailed... until some woman appears in his crot-I mean, bath. The story is pretty mediocre and literally nothing gets developed in this series, well, at least for the first 60 chapters or so. Things start happening later on, but the story is better in Darkness, which is why I don't have a high rating for the story for this manga. Anyway, the woman that appears in his bathtub is an alien called Lala Satalin Deviluke. She is the daughter of the King of Planet Deviluke.

Lala basically tells Rito "Bitch, whether you like it or not, you're my fiance and you're eventually gonna be the new King of Deviluke". Then, Rito didn't like life from that point on.

As I've mentioned, the art to this series is great. This is almost like the To LOVE-Ru doujinshi art, but kinda better, considering it's the real artist. Yabuki Kentarou is a good artist, acknowledge him for his titty drawings. If people ask you what he's known for, just say titties. They'll immediately want to read one of his works, well, to be more precise, To LOVE-Ru, but, yeah, you get what I mean, right? No? Wait, where are you going?

The characters in To LOVE-Ru... well, I don't think I really hate one at all. I like all of the characters in this manga. Some people might annoy me at times, but usually, I'm okay with all of them. But, my favorite out of all the girls is Kotegawa Yui, but I actually like all of them equ- no, not really equally, but I just like them all. Though my opinion probably means shit considering each and every person has their own character tastes, I think all the characters are great in their own way.

Well, overall, I liked this series. It was enjoyable to read, and it passed by extremely quickly. I spent a few hours a day reading this series, and finally caught up to it this day. Now, I don't know if this review has helped you, if it did, cool, if it didn't, well, I couldn't care less considering I don't write reviews to help people, I write them for my own personal enjoyment/boredom.

Please be gentel with me cuase I suck at spelling and I have never written a review before...that siad let me start this off by saying Im a huge Harem fan and have read and seen very similiar stories and characters like the ones found in To-Love-Ru. The thing that sets this one apart though is that the story doesnt take it far enough and ends with you begging for more....


First things first, how lucky can you be to have a beautiful alien princess land in your lap and then almost instantly fall in love with you?? Will if your Rito then your that lucky. ... The manga story line is some what diffrent as its pretty random but also has meaning basically showing you the reader why such beautiful girls would throw themselfs at this some what weak person named Rito. It all boils down to one thing no matter what happends and how you treat this poor boy he will NEVER TURN his back on you and will love and respect you for who you are. The protagonist is simply a nice guy that gets put in so many echhi situations its no wonder he hasnt written a karma suttra book of his own. Thats what really makes this manga is the pure simple heart of a unexperienced boy getting into situations he would never put himself in if it werent for the ladies in this manga. That too is whats best about this manga is the ladies there beautiful, smart, echhi, and pure hearted too.(Atleast some of them are excluding the Sensie and Rissa) This manga really has only one fualt and that the creator doesnt take it far enough !!!!! I wont spoil the ending cuase it was still pleasing but I just cant say that I would have ended the series so soon and like that. All siad and done though it was worth reading and the anime is very much worth watching!!!!!!

To Love-Ru is a manga that uses a variety of genres which includes romance, harem and sci-fi; the plot centres around Yuki Rito a high schooler who is in love with his class mate Haruna Sairenji until he meets the alien Lala in which many misadventures spawn from.

Story - 8
The story of To Love-Ru at a first glance looks like sci-fi ecchi harem that centres around the character getting into to all sorts of random trouble, which is part is what it is but it does have slowly developing plot that slowly creeping plot which developed without me noticing until near the end which I ... found to be a great element in this work as it got me more developed into the story but even so the 'adventures' in the story are varied but some to repeat twice every so often.

Art - 10
The art is an outstanding piece of work with a very close attention to detail which left amazed at how well it looked for example the clothing which the characters wear.

Characters - 9
The characters in this manga come in a wide variety and are all unique in their own way like having unique personalities and appearances which amazed me beyond words.

Enjoyment - 9
I enjoyed To Love-Ru random comedy and ecchi scenes as well as the slow development of the main character until the end.

Overall I loved the To Love-Ru manga filled with a amazing art work and fun characters, that is a must read for harem fans.

I liked To LOVE-Ru because it neither failed nor exceeded my expectations. I took it for what it was, a comedic ecchi harem, and nothing more. And I wasn't disappointed in the ending, like I was with Ichigo 100%.

The story was more of a distraction (and at best a complementary element) to the overall read. It got pretty crazy and beyond explanation most of the time, but it wasn't anything I got upset over. However, if you want a manga with a good plot, you might wanna skip this one.
Art: 9
The art style made this manga for me. The extremely well-drawn characters scenes ... they were put into fit very nicely into this genre. The ecchi drawings also fit in nicely too, not crossing that invisible line but providing quite a bit of fanservice.
Character: 7
Character development wasn't amazing, but it held its own. Although I thought the development between Haruna and Riko was entertaining (one of my favorites to date), some of the supporting characters were a bit lacking in quality. Overall though, it didn't ruin the mood of the manga for me.

As I said before, I took this manga for what it was. I came into this with low expectations and came out lightly surprised. This is an ecchi harem, don't expect too much.

I can confidently say that this manga isn't as bad as you might think from a first glance. The story is ridiculous and absurd, the art is fantastic, and everything else is exactly what you'd expect from a harem.

If your still not sure about giving this a go, I would recommend that you just dive in. I had been avoiding reading this one for a while because of some reviews that I read. But I think if you go into this with low expectations, it can be quite enjoyable. I'll end with this metaphor... Don't expect a knock-out homerun, but this standup double will do just fine.

I watched the anime for To Love Ru back in 2015, and now, two years after, I decided to pick up the manga so that I can take a look at the next sequel before it becomes an anime.
And I have to say, I'm ashamed I didn't pick this up before. The anime was good, but the manga is also very good. The art style is great and the story is well worked. Each character has their development and we see how and why everyone got into the harem.
It's a bit short for a review, but I don't think I need to say anything else. ... I highly recoment this manga if you like this types of story. The anime and manga have their diferences, but I think that both versions really work well.

A wise man once said of this manga, "How is this so popular? Is it the nipples?" and he was completely right.

After going through like 6 different harem series to get a full idea of what the genre has in store I finally ended up on To Love-Ru. The plot is as simple as it it gets: alien comes from outer space and says she is going to marry the MC, but the MC already has a childhood crush and every girl they meet ends up falling in love with him. From there it's just random series of events where the MC ends up fondling ... or seeing every girl naked pretty much. It's super generic and is about what you'd see in every other harem manga.

So then are the characters any good? Well, everyone is super generic also. We got the classic airhead, shy girl, kuudere, tsundere, younger sister, younger twin sisters of the main girl, straight laced girl, and the list continues. Honestly, trying to fault a harem manga on it's characters just seems unfair, but the main thing To Love-Ru lacks is that it doesn't really build up nearly enough chemistry between the MC and most of the cast. We only see things building between like the two main girls but everyone else is just thrown in, so it's hard to see anyone winning in the end besides the two mains.

And that brings me to one of my biggest gripes with the manga: that there is no ending. It was so disappointing that I spent 160 chapters seeing who the MC will end up with in the end only to have him end up with no one. There is a sequel to this that I will check out, but as a standalone series it ends up cheating all its readers. Maybe this is what it's like to be one of the side characters in a harem manga...
The other thing I disliked was how much fanservice there was. Now, I'm not one to say that harem manga shouldn't have it at all, since that's one of the main appeals of it. But when it seems like every chapter had to have at least 3 pages worth of fondling or naked girls, it gets to be really tiring. There's such thing as overexposure, and this manga brings it to the max. And honestly how can you even find a way to add 5 separate slimy tentacle scenes in one manga? I wish there was a little more actual plot to hold this thing up, but it's just not there.

So overall this was one of the most disappointing harem manga I've ever read, and the harem genre doesn't have the best rep for begin good to begin with. It just doesn't do anything right for a regular story and messes up what makes a harem manga good too, besides the fanservice. So honestly the only way for me to recommend this is if you're really only here for those uncovered nipples.

One of the first animes I completed was To Love Ru, I have a fondness for it, and I do not deny that possibly this closeness has inferred my reception of the work in general and the manga. I decided to read it just for fun, and I found more or less what I expected, in fact, I can compare my experience with the series against its original material, I realize the animated adaptation so faithful that it received.

There is not much to comment on, what must be highlighted is the essence of the work that resides in its characters, whether it was even the ... most infrequent secondary, they are so simple that they work. It is a romantic comedy whose basic plot of a confession that is complicated, whose development is only the appearance of more and more girls, more contrary to similar ones of the genre, here each one deserves to be highlighted, in fact, it is a reference to several that happened to it.

Each of the secondary schools has a few associated attitudes, development is only present in a few and is predictable, which does not mean that it is bad, it just happens and there is no more. The protagonist is not at the same level of unbearable as if they would be similar, Rito fulfills his role as a clueless gentleman well. Of the girls my favorite has always been Kotegawa, but in memory several come to my mind, Mikan (best sister), Lala, Haruna, Momo or even Run.

Thematically we would have the confrontation of feelings, which in fact, if it occurs both in the main girls and in the protagonist, doesn´t deserve another recognition of complexity, they are simple transitions in the understanding of tastes. However, to lengthen something that apparently should not last that long, they must appeal from serial situations, from the most remembered points of the work because it is its basic unit, the creation of small complexities at the point of misunderstandings thanks to the characters, sometimes guilt It is usually by aliens interested in Rito, in others by some invention, and in others anything typical of Shoujo. Neither brilliant nor cumbersome, existing and compliant, some more creative than others, which are generally the best chapters.

Important point, Rito has the merit of being the man with the strangest falls I have seen in any genre, big applause for tremendous skill.

And of course, the drawing has a great part of merit for the enjoyment of it, here if there are no intermediate points, great applause for Yabuki, absolutely a genius. His ability is from the character design which is 10, several may think that I exaggerate, but anyone who avidly reads the genre will realize that in TLR it stands out because no matter how varied Rito's harem is, each girl stands out visually, they have a something that differentiates and identifies them. That´s skill.

Not only that, the rhythm of each chapter is perfect, they are light, they go by quickly and they fully enjoy the composition of the image where action prioritizes, funny reactions, even surprisingly good action movements, such as fights between aliens. And obviously, the attributes of the girls at the appropriate times, there are so many in such quantity that it really surprises me that it has been published in a Shonen Jump, also with such a print run. There is no need to go deeper, I urge you to read and enjoy such talent.

Ultimately, TLR does not go beyond being a harem romantic comedy, with the particularity that everything he does he does so well, that I really can't blame him for not wanting to be more. Anyway, that advance would come in Darkness, there we will address if it was the correct step or not. At the moment, my love for this material remains solid. Long live To Love Ru!

Uno de los primeros animes que completé fue To Love Ru, le tengo un sentido cariño, y no niego que posiblemente esta cercanía ha inferido en mi recepción de la obra en general y el manga. Decidí leerlo sólo por gusto, y me encontré más o menos con lo que esperaba, de hecho, puedo comparar mi experiencia con la serie contra su material original, doy cuenta de la adaptación animada tan fiel que recibió.

No hay demasiado por comentar, lo que ha de resaltarse es la esencia de la obra que reside en sus personajes, ya fuera hasta el secundario más infrecuente, son tan simples que funcionan. Es una comedia romántica cuya trama básica de una confesión que se complica, cuyo desarrollo sólo es la aparición de más y más chicas, más contrario a similares del género, aquí cada una merece destacar, de hecho, es referencia de varios que le sucedieron.

Cada una de las secundarias tiene unas cuántas actitudes asociadas, el desarrollo sólo está presente en unas cuántas y es predecible, lo cuál no quiere indicar que sea malo, sencillamente ocurre y no queda de más. El protagonista no está al mismo nivel de insoportable como si serían similares, Rito cumple bien su papel de caballero despistado. De las chicas mi favorita siempre ha sido Kotegawa, pero en el recuerdo varias vienen a mi mente, Mikan (mejor hermana), Lala, Haruna, Momo o hasta Run.

Temáticamente tendríamos la confrontación de los sentimientos, que de hecho si ocurre tanto en las chicas principales como en el protagonista, tampoco merece otro reconocimiento de complejidad, son sencillas transiciones en el entendimiento de gustos. Sin embargo, para alargar algo que aparentemente no debería durar tanto deben apelar de situaciones seriales, de los puntos más recordados de la obra porque es su unidad básica, la creación de pequeñas complejidades a punta de malentendidos gracias a los personajes, a veces la culpa suele ser por extraterrestres interesados por Rito, en otras por algún invento, y en otras cualquier cosa típica del Shoujo. Ni brillantes ni engorrosos, existentes y cumplidores, unos cuántos más creativos que otros, que generalmente son los mejores capítulos.

Punto importante, Rito tiene el mérito de ser el hombre con las caídas más extrañas que he visto en cualquiera que fuera el género, grandes aplausos por tremenda habilidad.

Y claro, el dibujo tiene gran parte de mérito para su disfrute, aquí si no hay puntos intermedios, grandes aplausos para Yabuki, absolutamente un genio. Su habilidad está desde el diseño de personajes que es de 10, varios podrán pensar que exagero, pero cualquiera que lea ávidamente el género dará cuenta que en TLR destaca porque por muy variado que es el harem de Rito, cada chica destaca visualmente, tienen un algo que las diferencia e identifica. Es habilidad.

No sólo eso, el ritmo de cada capítulo es perfecto, son ligeros, se pasan rápido y disfrutan al completo, la composición de imagen donde prioriza la acción, divertidas reacciones, hasta los sorprendentemente buenos movimientos de acción, como las peleas entre aliens. Y evidentemente, los atributos de las chicas en los momentos apropiados, hay tantos en tal cantidad que de verdad me sorprende que haya sido publicada en una Shonen Jump, además con tal tiraje. No hay que profundizar, insto a leer y disfrutar semejante talento.

En últimas, TLR no va más allá de ser una comedia romántica harem, con la particularidad que todo lo que hace lo hace tan bien, que de verdad no puedo reprocharle por no querer ser más. De todas formas, ese avance vendría en Darkness, ahí abordaremos si fue el paso correcto o no. Por el momento, mi cariño con este material sigue sólido. ¡Larga vida a To Love Ru!

tl;dr: A pure ecchi gag manga without much else that although done incredibly well, does feel repetitive to the point of dullness.

To Love-Ru is at it’s core an incredibly simple manga. There’s some veneer of there being some sort of romantic plot involving the protagonist Rito being in love with his classmate Haruna but an interstellar princess named Lala suddenly appearing in his life and falling in love with him. However, the romance just kind of sort of there in the background and doesn’t matter most of the time. The setting involving space is somewhat important because although the story takes place in contemporary Japan, ... there’s still a lot of futuristic and really bizarre technology ass well as a myriad of crazy lifeforms. Still, that’s the only source of the supernatural aspects as the manga is fine with veering into other areas like ghosts and such at times, so it’s not like the setting matters all that much either. Thus, ultimately the manga is simply about Rito getting into various ecchi hijinks with the myriad of girls that surround him.

The girls that surround him have a pretty decent amount of variety and overall I found them pretty likable. Reading the character profiles, it’s clear that the author put in a lot of effort trying to make each girl stand out and not seem to similar to any other, and it very much does show. However, the effort seems to extend to as far as their personality and role in the web of relationships of the cast. In terms of background, story, character arc, and relationship arc, essentially every character is the same in that there’s not much there at all. Some characters have a minor amount of background and story, but it’s mostly confined to their introduction with very little expansion beyond that and thus not enough to feel like actual plot threads. Character’s become closer after spending time together and there are hints of characters acting differently from how they usually did at times, but it isn’t really focused on and doesn’t really seem to be going anywhere.

These issues largely stem from the way the manga flows in that nothing about the manga is long term. Essentially every chapter is a full short story. Each story may take elements from previous chapters, but it gives less a feeling of there being any sort of long term plan. Rather, it feels more like it’s just taking toys it’s put in the toybox out to play with them for a bit. And it just playing around can certainly be fun, a lot of fun even. How much you’ll enjoy it will depend on how fond you are of the heroines and how much you like the continuous stream of lucky pervert type gags. And although the execution of both of these aspects is as solid as it can get with really high quality art to boot, it still starts feeling pretty repetitive eventually. This feels like a manga that works really well in short doses, such as in the weekly format it was originally published in, but reading through it volume by volume it definitely feels like it’s dragging on and getting kind of dull. This is even true for the ending which doesn’t really seem to stand out from the rest of the manga at all and is ultimately a complete non-ending. Though there’s a direct sequel so that’s not that much of an issue.

What I have to say about this series is, are we sure it's a shonen for everyone?! Seriously, the thing I really liked is that the episodes were self-contained detached from each other with a single common thread (yes some stories were made to fill a hole or the authors had no ideas because you can't connect logical), compare with the feeling of love. I've seen the main characters mature, Lala going from ditzy, playful, shameless to respectful of other people's feelings, especially Rito's, serious and with a little modesty. The Fanservice is used in a nice way and almost always accompanied by gags bordering ... on the surreal, many references to the manga of the authors and those of Shonen Jump and science fiction in general. The authors interact a lot with the reader by introducing you to the characters and how they created, what they discussed, and how to bring them into the story with many anecdotes. The drawing is very clean and free of smudges, a style widely used in Shonen Ecchi to give those who read the manga the impression of touching the girls and giving them the consistency of foam or something very soft. I didn't like the protagonist at first, as I found him sloppy and flat then, one gag leads to another, he at least made me accept him. The characters that are best characterized, for me, are Lala and Yami since their character maturation is much more visible than in the other characters.
Another thing to say, the open ending is in line with the manga, if it doesn't continue to say that it's a damn ending, but the authors said that to love ru isn't finished, so it fits. Surely it will be a manga that I will read again for a laugh.
For the drawing I give 7.5 while for the story 8.

I don't normally read these non-serious manga's so please forgive me if I'm a bit harsh, but after a while I got the tone of the manga and enjoyed it.

Story: So the story is good and funny, but I only rated it a 6 because I found there's a lot of filler. I know it's kind of a sitcom type manga, where every other chapter there is SLIGHT character growth, etc, but I got used to it. The situations are very ecchi, and are funny too, so I didn't mind. But again, the lack of plotline and character development (minus the main character) kind ... of sucked.

Art: The art is excellent. Actually, the only reason I decided to give this manga a shot is because the author is one of the people who's writing the darling in the franxx manga. Naturally it's very sexual, ecchi, but it's done really well so I don't mind. It's not over the top.

Character: Characters are good, actually my favorite character isn't even the main character but the main character's sister. Actually, you get the sense she's grown up as an individual by the end of the manga as well, and that was really cool.

Overall, it's a good manga. Not something serious, and you can read it quite casually.

This story revolves around a bumbling teenage boy trying to confess to his crush. He finds that hard enough, but throw in a runaway alien-princess that wants to marry him? Now, he has NO idea what to do.

Story (6/10) - Obviously, the animes' are a small fraction of the story. In between, we see more comedic, ecchi accidents involving Rito and his friends.

Art (6/10) - I don't know what it is about this style, but it just doesn't seem to be for me. I'm not saying it's bad, it has its own unique art that doesn't suit everyone.

Character (7/10) - Seeing Rito slowly ... growing and becoming more comfortable with the women in his life is heartwarming, but is also a bit annoying after every predictable failed confession.

Enjoyment (7/10) - I have to say, going to be the source Manga of the original To LOVE-Ru anime and its sequel was enjoyable. There were a few plot holes that I felt weren't answered in the Anime, and the Manga delivered.

Overall (6.5/10) - This was a nice read. Can't wait to get started on To LOVE-Ru Darkness!

You think you have seen it all??? Not so fast dudes... Not until a pink haired, innocent alien princess emerges right out of your bathtub stark naked. Or not until you are informed of the fact that a silent assassin who is feared across the galaxy is after your head. Here comes the world of To-love ru defining friendship, youth and love (with a bit of ecchi acts, sneak-peek of panty shots and titty-groping... Wait, did I say a bit??? I mean a lot...). I mean what is a teenager school life without a genius alien girl, a shape shifting flirty idol, a clumsy ghost ... or a busty alien doctor, right?



ART

Artwork is one of the key factors in a manga (especially in an ecchi manga) which really makes or breaks the deal. Now, Kentarou Yabuki has done one hell of a job right there. I absolutely loved the artwork. Everything was bright and crisp. The character designs were really detailed especially of the female ones. I specifically liked the artwork of Lala. I mean who in their right mind wouldn't fall in love with a hot alien princess?? And yeah I also liked the artwork of Celine and Gid. Those two were really cute... hey, hey, don't judge me; I'm not a damn loli lover...
The background, although, sometimes felt a bit less detailed. But who the hell in the holy earth gives a damn to that anyway???

PLOT

Well, there ain't much of a story as usual. As in a typical rom-com, we've
got our "I'll save everyone" protagonist Rito Yuki. We've got our "beauty-with-the-brain" princess Lala (drooling...ehm..ehmmmm), bossy and strict tsundere Yui, kind and gentle Haruna, clumsy and slightly spooky(literally) Oshizu (or Shizu??? I don’t know...) and many more. So as we speak, we've got all the ingredients and spices ready for a good harem comedy. Now, was the dish worth of a Michelin star or got burnt out??? The plot didn't differ much from many other harem stories. But what does set it apart from others is the fact that it has got sci-fi elements in it(and believe me, the mangakas have used it in the story in every possible ways knowing the fact that how much it appeals the fans...). The story was pretty enjoyable throughout the manga. Each time whenever we're fooled into thinking that there can't be any more surprises, we're slammed into the earth of to-love ru by a new character with its unique traits and activities(or by another crazy and weird invention of Lala... By the way, who the hell does the work of naming them???). And I have to confess, didn't I enjoy it thoroughly...

Although, the manga is filled with oneshot stories afterwards which really hamper the pace of the story... Actually it advances very little after the midway.

CHARACTER DESIGN

There is our MC Rito 'the sissy' Yuki. To be frank, I don't dislike introvert or effeminate characters provided that there is enough plot time and character development to explain the transition. But what do we get here???
Rito remains the same sissy he used to be throughout the story but surprisingly enough gathers the courage and strength to face opponents off much bigger and better than him. The only work he does in the entire story is to act as a chick magnet and stumble upon absolutely nothing.

Now for the female leads, they are used as they would get in any other harem manga. They all are cantered around Rito. Absolutely no plot time is given to explain the reason of their affection other than Yui besides Lala (which I'll consider as a special case here keeping in mind that she confessed him in the beginning of the story). There was absolutely no scope of character development whatsoever.

OVERALL

Well, there certainly are many shortcomings in this manga if seen critically. But I think we shouldn't forget the fact that it's a light rom-com created solely for the purpose of entertainment of the readers (in contrast to its sequel "darkness" which has apparently more plot with less humour). It has got a lot of ecchi scenes, a lot of fan-service and certainly a lot of belly-aching, jaw-breaking laughter too. I have to warn you though, this is not for everyone. If you're not into ecchi comedies or if you hate fan-service, I've to sadly announce that this is not the one for you (sob...sob). But if you have no problem with it whatsoever, I'll suggest you to give it a try at least once (and you're also welcome to hit me with all your curses if turned out badly). Actually it's been so much popular that it's become a corner-stone in its genre.

And by the way, many are complaining about the ending of the manga. But I personally don't mind it. Because I>it's a harem series. Choosing one of them would also mean to decline the rest which I certainly wouldn't like. II>The creators had the sequel (darkness) in mind. Had they been end it otherwise, they couldn't continue it anymore.

I read all the volumes, I really enjoyed the 161 chapters, the art is beautiful, the characters are endearing, some of their adventures are certainly negligible, but these make us discover a little more about these characters all the same. It's a 8 for me.

But wait a minute... There are 162 chapters and not 161? The 162nd doesn't exist, come on! If? Oh, let me check... Oh no... There is a 162nd chapter...

This 162nd chapter has made me assign only 4 to this manga (instead of 8 or even 9). I mean, when you write a story, there is the introduction ... of the characters, the adventures etc...
In To-Love-Ru there are all the elements that make the story almost awesome (A L M O S T). Because when a story is coming to an end, we must have a conclusion, we must know who Rito will choose at the end of the story. 162 chapters is very long, and at the end of this story, we are entitled to a """conclusion""" that leads to a sequel ("To-Love Ru Darkness" that I have not read and that I will not read).

That's why To-Love Ru is objectively worth 8 (even 9), but subjectively 4.
It's a really captivating manga, I recommend it to you, but if there's a sequel, it's because you already know the outcome of these 162 chapters....
