Both manga focus on a relationship between a kid and an adult (in the case of flat, a teenager) and how they begin to bond and understand each other.
Sudden fatherhood of a young, almost excessively mature girl as the result of a lost loved one. The younger age and overall attitude of the man in My Girl leads to a more self-centered, mopey tale, whereas in Usagi Drop the story is able to focus more upon the growth of the man and his new child, rather than dwell on the past.
A similar premise taken in a very different direction. My Girl focuses on the despair and angst surrounding the loss of a loved one and sudden, unexpected responsibility, whereas Otaku no Musume-san puts forth a more comical effort than anything else.
Both guys were living their lives as they were until they found out they were fathers to their daughters. My Girl revolves around Kazama finding out his ex-love had died and she left him a daughter which he did not know of. While Hotman, is about a man who had a troubled life in his younger days without caring about the consequences, left him with a baby with a skin disease. Both men carefully change their ways for their daughters as single fathers (even though in Hotman, the father has his siblings).
