Synopsis22 years ago a mysterious seismic phenomenon rocked the Yokohama district, thrusting it miles into the sky and effectively separating it from the rest of Japan. In the following years, a fraction of the newborns in this fledgling world began to develop extraordinary powers, each unique to the personality of the possessor. These mutated humans became known as Alters and were responsible for turning the former Yokohama into a chaotic wasteland. Now, as the former metropolis continues to re-build itself, the Alters have fallen into two camps: those who have joined HOLY, a dogmatic organization that hopes to re-establish order and morality, and those who wish to lord over the comparatively weaker humans. Only Kazuma, a powerful Alter who's really only interested in looking out for himself and an orphan girl named Kanami, stands between them, suspicious of both sides and unaware that he may hold the key to harmonious co-existence.

Well, when I read this I started at volume 2, which is probably a good thing, considering how badly volume 1 sucked. The story isn't so great afterwards, but the action in it is mostly why I read it, I personally like this one better then the TV series. I really hated how it ended in a way, the ending felt kinda stupid. But other then that it was pretty decent.Hell, if I started in volume 1 I probably wouldn't have read very far either.
As has already been said the people in the Lost Ground, or at least a certain % of the population, have Alter powers. Which is basically manipulation of the area around them in some way and then forming it into whatever their power is, or something like that. Like the main characters arm can turn into some sort of mechanical looking arm, imagine Fullmetal Alchemist, just with different rules, and more limitations. Basically the people with these powers are hunted down, in an X-men sort of way, I really do not wanna give too much away so you can just read the manga for yourself and decide whether its good or not. read more

Where do I start. First off, I must admit I read this shortly after Rewatching s-CRY-ed anime. If you liked the anime, don't expect anything similar. Do not get me wrong, its fun in a quirky, nonsensical way.
First off, the characters are, while having the same types of motivations, have predominantly different powers, entirely new unheard of characters. It doesnt have the depth that the anime does, (surprising seeings as its usually the opposite.)
Now, I dont know which came first, this manga or this anime but the anime had rules, structure, and a fairly coherent plotline. This series was an under cooked Gurren Lagann. And I Love Gurren Lagann. And i enjoyed this manga. but i would not bother buying this one, Read it at a con. Or just stick to the anime.
