SynopsisKyo Aizawa is very excited about getting to attend Seisyu Academy, which is famous for its adorable girls' uniforms. Her spirits are crushed, however, when she opens the package containing her school uniform to find a boy's uniform.
Her father explains to her that, as Seisyu Academy is also famous for its boys' basketball program, he enrolled her as a boy so she can fulfill his own dream of becoming an NBA basketball star. To make matters worse, she has to stay in the boys' dorms, and her roommate is the same boy she came to hate at tryouts. (Source: Tokyopop) |

At first view i was debating myself if i should watch it or not. The plot line seemed interesting but the basketball part kinda turned me off. But i started reading it as soon as i was finish with the summary. The story was halarious, it kept me laughing from start to finish. Overall i think anyone would enjoy this story. I've left out some things that i condsider spoilers.
Story: 9
The plot line was great. Like i said i was glad the story didn't completly revolve around basketball. At first Kyo's alone, living with a roomate who she can't stand yet finds herself attracted to him. Ofcoarse no one knows she's a girl so she has the burden of keeping that hidden. And being in a dorm filled with guys she's sure going to have a hard time. Showering while the guys eat, never chaging in the men's lockeroom, but how long can she hide it?
Art: 7
I thought the art was fine, nothing outstanding either. Some parts the expressions are more empesized and stand out more.
Character: 8
I think they develop very well. They all come to have closer relationships, as friends or in the case of some roomates more than that.
Enjoyment: 10
The fact that i gave this a ten was that i was completly entranced in this story. It was halarious, and parts i almost died laughing. I didnt find myself bored at any part so that's why i gave this a ten.

Girl Got Game rather “funky” English translation for 活力100% aka Katsuryoku 100% aka Power!! Nevertheless, don’t let the title fool you with the assumption that there’s like magic involved or whatever. Not at all. It’s a story over in the sports and school life realm. Additionally, the story is certainly a gender-bender type. A girl ends up dressing up as a guy. Oh no, don’t you go saying “copy –cat of Hana-Kimi or Ouran High School Host Club..!” :P It’s not entirely like that at all. Rather, the reasoning for why she, being the main and central protagonist, cross-dresses for a very different and bizarre reason. But, there’s quite sufficient amount of backing for why she must do so. And like really, what girl doesn’t want to go live with a “harem” of hot guys? No one, right?
Anyway, the story starts off with the central protagonist beginning her new life as a guy. The main motive equals: basketball! She encounters various characters who help her recognize how to deal with phoniness and fakeness and other “ethics.” Naturally, this story being shoujo, romance develops between her and another protagonist… But, leading events make it difficult to discern whether or not to follow through with love at all. Therefore, drama ensues as she becomes confused and lost of what to do. Regardless, throughout the story, intense comical relief comes storming through. For about half of the story, I was dying laughing. And rounding up to the end of the story, some moments seemed rather pleasantly surprising (at least to me) and yet other moments disappointed me. Overall closure is quite well determined, but, it does still stir my interest and desire to see what happens next. Altogether, the story envelops an interesting plot with plenty of comical moments within a rather dramatic, romance high school story.
To the art aspects… I found nothing too “crude” or “unartistic..” And, well, I can be picky at times… but, really I found very few artistic flaws. A few angular sketches were a bit disproportionate, but mostly quite impressive and fine. Movements and sudden change scenes were quite well drawn and organized. Furthermore, the general layout of character and setting were very appropriate. Never too detailed (or difficult to read) nor simplistic (or plain). Nothing truly stands out about the art style, though… It’s quite typical.
The story is not so entangled with more than five or six characters so some of the foil/clown/side characters are never too well-developed but show relatively true personalities. The mangaka apparently made some exaggerations of the character traits of several minor characters, however, the main characters represent relatively real and true people. At least, I can recognize that people would act and feel similarly as the characters of her story in real life. There is enough connection to real life events and feelings that I was able to sense. Furthermore, the characters develop and transform, which is commonplace in stories, but directs a change and brings forth improved personalities.
All in all, I quite thoroughly enjoyed the manga. Perhaps, I am a bit biased, since I like this whole Reverse-Harem idea… Nevertheless, I found plenty aspects of the manga enjoyable. The comedy was just so amazing. The drama was overdone, slightly, but I could feel that the tensions and emotions were realistic enough. Then, the characters were not THAT loveable, but entertaining and genuine enough to follow their lifestyles in the story. Anyway, I encourage everyone who liked Hana-Kimi to give this manga a shot. This mangaka deserves equal credit for coming up with this amusing idea to let other enjoy.

This is also where a girl cross dresses to get into an all boy school, but the sport is basketball instead of high jump
Same story just with different characters and a few other small changes that don't really matter. It's not AS good as Hana-Kimi, but its still really good and worth reading if you liked that, and while its the same stuff it manages to make it so you dont feel like your just re-reading HK or something.
It feels very identical to me, not only is the art similar, but the story and occurances are as well. For example, both female leads don't know how to find their own bed after the lights have gone out ^^; Very charming if you have read one to read the other, even though it feels a bit repetative.
Both manga have the same basic storyline, with the girl crossdressing as a boy (although one was willing and the other was forced), sharing a dorm room with a guy, and well, see what happens.
The same story, a girl come into a school as a guy, fell in love with her roomate...
Hana-Kimi is high jump while Power is basketball. BUT Hana-Kimi is much better, both in its artistic style and its plot!
Both have girls pretending to boys in an all boys high school
A girl has to disguise herself as a boy for one reason or another. Her love interest is her roommate, but complications arise when the roommate starts to fall in love with the girl. They are both really well done.
My first impression of Power!! (also known as Girl Got Game) was that it was basically the basketball version of Hana-Kimi. There are huge differences between the two -- the biggest being that Power!! is comedic where Hana-Kimi is dramatic -- but they share the same basic dynamic, girl pretending to be boy lives with boy. Gender-bending has never been so hilarious!
If you like Hana Kimi, then you might wanna try reading Power!! Girl got Game. The plot is not similar but yet so close. In hana kimi, the main female character disguising as a boy to meet the one she idolized that is one of the high jump athlete, while in power, the female character disguising as a boy because her father told her so in order for her to join the well known high school basketball club. But one thing in common about this two girl is they just funny and hilarious, and the fact that they had to hide their identity.
Cross-dressing fun! :) Girl infiltrates school as boy, chaos ensues! Power!! is published by Tokyopop as Girl Got Game, and has less drama than Hana-Kimi, but lots more comedy!
Both are incredibly similar. They both are in situations where they have to pretend to be a boy and live with other boys. They also both end up falling for the one they have to share a room with. And they both involve sports. Except girl got game is more comedy and hana kimi is more romance. They're both great though =D
Both are gender-benders and involve sports.
gender-benders, very sweet stories about a girl posing a guy attending school for different reasons. coincidentally (or .. not) they both are in love with their roommates
They're both about a cross-dressing girl who goes to an all boys-school. Both girls fall in love with their room-mates, who by the way are really good at sports (so are the girls, as well).
They are exactly the same except for in Hana Kimi, Mizuki goes of her own free will, and in Power, Aizawa is forced.
Power!! and Hana-Kimi are both gender-bender series, both are very funny comedies and characters are simply hilarious. But let me tell you a secret: I enjoyed Power!! more than Hana-Kimi. Why? Power!! is more comedy than shoujo, it contains more action + I absolutely LOVE pairing Kyo/Chiharu (and this statement comes from someone who usually hates shoujo... Power!! is shoujo for people who don´t like shoujo. Hana-Kimi is more about romance and such, but it´s still great and funny. I highly recommend both series.
They are both about a girl who cross dresses as a guy and fall in love with their roommates.
Power!! is another gender-bender about a girl who has to cross-dress as a boy. The difference here is the girl is forced by her father in order to play on the top-ranked boys basketball team, and the focus on this series is comedy whereas Hana-Kimi has more drama.
If you loved the gender bender comedy of Hana Kimi you will enjoy Power - Girl Got Game. She is enrolled by her basketball loving father as a male at a school so she can play on the guys basketball team so she has to live in the guys dorm and hide the fact she's a girl. Lots of comedy and fun!!! Enjoy. Power is different enough from Hana Kimi that you won't feel like it's a copy and Power! is really really funny, like rolling on the floor funny.
Although the main ideas are the same, with a girl disguising as a guy and sports and whatnot, these stories are both unique and well-written.
Both stories are romance with a girl living with a guy who doesn't know her true gender at first. Although those are very similar already, the stories go different directions after that. One girl purposefully disguised as a guy to watch her idol high jump, while the other is forced to disguise herself by her father. Despite that, she has a sport she sticks to, unlike the other.
The girl's roommates are both similar in many ways. Their personalities, their reactions, etc.
If you liked "Hana Kimi" you will definitely like "Power!!" and vice versa,

This one's generally the same. I mean the basic plot is. A girl is forced by her insane father to join her high school's men basketball team, which means not only living in the same dorm as all of her teammates but even having to give up her high school life as a girl and disguising herself as a boy...
A girl having to disguise herself to go to an all boys school. In both mangas, their parents are the ones forcing them to go. Both of the girls have to hide their secret from their roommate, and when they find out, how they deal with it. Both mangas have the love interest being their roommate.
Both are about girls hiding their gender at all-boys high school and about the romance betwen them and their dorm-mates.
Both stories have a girl who is forced to go to an all boys boarding school by one of her parents. It is quickly found out by the roommate that she is, in fact, a girl, and as you would think, a romance begins
