SynopsisCount D has opened his petshop again, this time in Tokyo's Shinjuku!
For those who haven't read Petshop of Horrors, Count D's Petshop is a place where one can find animals from the most ordinary housepets to savage predators to mystical beasts that should belong only in legends. Customers often find that their new pets change their lives more than they expect, fulfilling their dreams, or realizing their nightmares. (Source: M-U) |

Sep 2, 2008? chapters 1 of 2 people found this review helpful If you liked Petshop of Horrors, then of course you are going to like this series. It is just as good as the original series, although with a few changes. This series doesn't have chapters similar to the original, where a person is given a pet and three rules.
As for characters, I will always love Count D. He really hasn't changed from Petshop of Horrors, cute but creepy at the same time. As for the new character who is trying to find out Count D's secret, Taizuu, he is pretty co...ol. Although he isn't quite as funny as Leon, Taizuu does have his moments.
As for returning characters, there seems to be a possibility that Leon or Chris is searching for Count D. I have only got to volume 2 of the manga, and I haven't quite figured out if it is a grown-up Chris or Leon. When a man tells Count D that some blonde-haired and blue-eyed guy was looking for him, Count D describes him in a way that fits Leon more. "Did he have a mop of hair, suspicious eyes, wear dirty clothes and have a big attitude?" But then in the second volume, you see a little bit of him. His eyes are bigger, with the light iris and pupil in the middle, and he has the little eyelash to the side, just like Chris. So at the moment, the topic is debatable. In conclusion of returning characters, there is a possibility that there will be, but for now, not quite.
The art is still beautiful, even though minor/side characters in different chapters are still drawn a bit simply, like in the original series. The storyline and chapters are still very interesting and fun to read.
I highly recommend this series. Petshop of Horror fans will like it (at the very least), and new readers won't really need to read the original series to understand what is going on. Although I encourage reading the original, either before or while reading Tokyo.
I will review it again when more books come out (since I think it is still going in Japan), but I wanted to let hesitant readers know that Petshop of Horrors: Tokyo is a good read by far. Lots of people are unsure if it's good or not, so here's my answer. I give it two thumbs up! read more
