Synopsis

Yaya Higuchi is a fan of visual kei musicians and gothic lolita fashion. As a child, her dream was to grow up and become a great singer. However, she now hides her passion six days a week, afraid that she will be ridiculed by her peers or her overly strict father. Only on Sundays can she freely express herself among like-minded teens in Harajuku.

Even without disclosing her secret hobbies, Yaya is treated poorly by Seri and Moe, two mean girls who she calls friends. As hard as she tries to remain optimistic, Yaya is painfully aware that no one at school speaks to her besides her bullies and an almost offensively straightforward male classmate named Moriyama.

When a fierce, no-nonsense girl named Nana starts taking care of Yaya's troubles—paying back Seri and Moe for their cruel pranks and kicking down predatory men who approach Yaya in the street—it seems too good to be true. Moriyama encounters Nana more than once, and as he sees Yaya in class every day, he gradually begins to suspect that these two vastly different girls are the same person!

I thought that this manga had all of the right things to make it one of the greats. The drama of this high school girl, Yaya, who has another personality inside her, named Nana. The story was very well put together, and portrayed the life of a teenage girl who does not know who she is, and struggles through it.

This manga I recommend for people to read. It's very entertaining and heart wrenching. The art isn't the greatest, but once you get past that, you will fall in love with it.

We've all been there, we have all had those situations were we just stared into the mirror and wished we were someone else. Othello follows Yaya; a girl who wishes for nothing more to be brave, and in doing so creates another personality to combat the problems she is to afraid confront.

I wasn't so sure about this manga at first. It was really angsty and the melodrama felt over the top. The bullying seemed unbelievable and I didn't like the way that it was always Nana saving the day. However, as the story manages to progress it started to turn for the better. The ...

TW: SA, bullying, harassment

Othello's one of those shoujos from the early 2000s where SA and harassment are used as punch lines despite how serious it is. It's an interesting plot with our MC girl with a split personality which causes some unhinged situations but many of these are SA and borderline r*pe.

TLDR; It's a short read (only 28 chapters) with pretty art, but again there's sexual harassment happening every 2 chapters. It's a decent story littered with assault and bullying that shouldn't be normalized as a "funny trope". If you don't mind things like that or ignore it, you still enjoy the overarching story.
