Introduction Review: CHAPTER 1
Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei? When I first heard of the title, I didn't expect something like this, especially when I heard its official English name, which was "The Irregular in the Magic High School." I thought it would be like some manga that'd be heavy on the action part, it might be later, but definitely not now.
Basic Plot: Tatsuya and his little sister Miyuki enrolls in a magic high school which puts emphasis on the practical part of magic. Tatsuya gets top grades in the written part of the entrance exam and Miyuki gets top grades in the practical part. In the end though, Miyuki gets placed in class 1; the elite class and Tatsuya gets placed in class 2; which is the reserve class.
Story: 8
So far, the development, if there is any has been pretty good. It had quite an impact on me since it made me feel that I wanted Tatsuya to be an elite instead of a reserve.
Art: 8
Art is very 'clean' as I should put it. My definition of clean is that you can clearly tell what's happening in a panel.
Character: 8
Even though I felt that Tatsuya should have been enraged because of his placement, he stayed cool. Instead, it was his sister that got enraged. He acted cool at that time and said that he was happy that Miyuki was angry for him. This is why I rated character an 8.
Enjoyment: 8
I enjoyed this very much. Its probably due to the feeling that I want to know what Tatsuya will do to achieve the Elite role. I also want to see how the school is.
Overall: 8 read more

Okay so I recently bought the first volume of this manga in a bookstore and i was just like SHIT THIS IS THE SHIT!.... The characters are close to displayed perfectly. I can't even say it... The hero, Shiba Tatsuya is a really damn cool guy... I know i am a guy and its quite frustating to say it but DAMN he is TOO COOL! Normally, the guys in manga or anime are no good guys and start to become cool characters but this manga, the guy looks cool from the start and I am pretty sure he will look cool through out the manga. I gave this manga a 9 because not much of the manga came out and this is a review after reading the first volume... I was REALLY IMPRESSED.... I feel ashamed of myself for not realizing such an AWESOME and BEASTLY manga and it will be one of my favourite manga of all time, although only a few chapters came out... There are plots within a plot and it excels in nearly every aspect and you just can't help but feel like there is something that pulls you into this manga... This manga requires your every focus because its sci-fi and the facts about magic and stuff comes out so you need to be reading it diligently and not skipping every single pages... If you have any time at all, this manga must be read and i must recommend it to every one who have not read this SUPREME manga xD read more

Similarities include: schools in which students learn how to become more proficient with magic; male protagonists who have unique positions within the school system due to their special ability; the many female characters who they oftentimes interact with; and an action-oriented narrative with many references to magic tropes. Do note however that Mx0 is mostly light-hearted, whereas Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei has a more serious tone.
The major similarity between the two series is that both protagonists attend a magic highschool, are irregulars in the student body and possesses unorthodox abilities and both stories focus on the protagonists’ interaction with the other regulars at their school and their creative application of magic.
While Mx0 is a blithe comedy, Mahouka Koulou no Rettousei provides a sober and practical perspective into a society where magic is the norm.
Both series deals with magic at a special academy where students learn how to control their powers. The main male protagonist has special authority at the school and often interacts with other students.
Both series also a special school system where the laws are imperative to follow and upholds the position of the main characters.
Both series has comedy, drama, science fiction themes, magic, shounen battles, and some romance.

Similarities include: specialised schools that ranks students in terms of their magic abilities; male protagonists who are low ranked students, but have exceptional combat strategy; and action and romance themes that permeate throughout both titles.
Both manga involve a technological form of magic, have main male protagonists (Raishin for Kikou Shoujo and Tatsuya for Mahouka Koukou) who are studying in an elite magic school, and that these protagonists end up being low-ranked/outside the elite ranks despite having considerable combat prowess. Personality-wise, they remain calm and collected in battle and use unconventional fighting styles. Both of these manga are also originally adapted from light novels.
