"Magic" is a product of neither legends nor fairy tales. It has become a technology of reality for nearly a century. Various countries in the world are locked in a race in nurturing "Magicians."

Shiba Tatsuya is an honors student without magic capability at First High School, a magic high school along with his sister who happens to the top student among the freshmen. What will happen to him, and how will he live his school life where he is one of the many reserves in the school looked down upon by the chosen magical students?

Okay so I recently bought the first volume of this manga in a bookstore and i was just like SHIT THIS IS THE SHIT!.... The characters are close to displayed perfectly. I can't even say it... The hero, Shiba Tatsuya is a really damn cool guy... I know i am a guy and its quite frustating to say it but DAMN he is TOO COOL! Normally, the guys in manga or anime are no good guys and start to become cool characters but this manga, the guy looks cool from the start and I am pretty sure he will look cool through out the manga. read more

Introduction Review: CHAPTER 1

Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei? When I first heard of the title, I didn't expect something like this, especially when I heard its official English name, which was "The Irregular in the Magic High School." I thought it would be like some manga that'd be heavy on the action part, it might be later, but definitely not now.

Basic Plot: Tatsuya and his little sister Miyuki enrolls in a magic high school which puts emphasis on the practical part of magic. Tatsuya gets top grades in the written part of the entrance exam and Miyuki gets top grades in the practical part. In the read more

At first I was looking for a light novel, the only light novels I've read are SAO and Hidan no Aria. Considering how hard it is to read a light novel compared to other medias (I dunno if it's just me), I was a bit reluctant. I found Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei is quite popular, so I looked it up. I found the manga instead.

I tried to read it and by the time I reached the first page, the cover, I knew it that it is gonna be epic. The art, the story, characters, are all amazing. Even how the magic system works, it's not read more

Manga: Mx0
Similarities include: schools in which students learn how to become more proficient with magic; male protagonists who have unique positions within the school system due to their special ability; the many female characters who they oftentimes interact with; and an action-oriented narrative with many references to magic tropes.

Do note however that Mx0 is mostly light-hearted, whereas Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei has a more serious tone.

Manga: Machine-Doll wa Kizutsukanai
Similarities include: specialised schools that ranks students in terms of their magic abilities; male protagonists who are low ranked students, but have exceptional combat strategy; and action and romance themes that permeate throughout both titles.

Manga: Kimi Shi ni Tamau Koto Nakare
Both main character are underestimated. they both use interesting ways to fight with unconventional powers.

Manga: Kuroko no Basket
Lead actor has a hidden talent as well but with different themes - one talks about basketball whereas the other talks about magic.

Manga: Toaru Majutsu no Index
-Magic and Science. But TAMNI seratates them, MKNR unites them.
-Academy. It's a school life i mean.
-Harem. The protagonist somewhat becomes so popular.

Manga: Kuusen Madoushi Kouhosei no Kyoukan
In both mangas, the protagonist is someone who is scorned by society due to something (in Mahouka Kouko, it's because he is a weed, in Kuusen Madoushi it's because he's labeled as a traitor due to an incident). Both protagonists, however, are strong in an aspect. Both involve some sort of school theme mixed with an magical aspect. Also, power of magic is also measured. Both mangas do have their differences, as in Kuusen Madoushi, magic is used to fend off "bug monsters", whereas Mahouka Kouko magic is just something studied and used (not sure what for).
