Synopsis

The novel is about a normal day in Morioh, from the point of view of a new character named Takuma Hasumi. His stand is called The Book, has the appearance of a normal book, and possesses the power to record everything he sees or feels. Josuke and the rest of the Part IV heroes appear as antagonists.

The story takes place in Morioh, in the year 2000. Three days before the end of winter break. Koichi and Rohan find a blood-stained cat outside a convenience store. They go searching for the cat's owner, and find a woman's strange-looking corpse inside the house. By using Heaven's Door, they find a clue: "a male student with red scratch marks under his arm." Over the span of 3 months, the curtain opens on this incident.

Background

The Book: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure 4th Another Day was first announced in 2000 but proved difficult to complete. In 2004, author Otsuichi claimed that he had written over 2000 pages but had scrapped them all. The novel was finally released in 2007, coinciding with the series 20th anniversary.

Absolutely phenomenal story, my favorite JJBA story other than Part 7. If you liked Part 4, you'll love this novel. Just like Part 4, it's a slow burn story with an absolutely insane climax and some of the rawest emotion I've seen in fiction. This novel is set a year or so after Part 4, and is another murder mystery like Part 4, except unlike the villain of Part 4, The Book's villain is actually the (anti-hero) protagonist, and Part 4's cast are side characters in the story. Also unlike Part 4's villain, this villain's motivations are deeply emotional and arguably justified, and much of ...

I am currently in the process of attempting to read the different manga and light novels for Jojo's Bizarre Adventure in chronological order, as I move between parts (or the best I can, up until I hit references for later Parts I'm blind to). At this point, the only other novel of theirs I've read is The Genesis of Universe.

Compared to that work, in which the story felt simply as just a couple more villains-of-the-week during the crew's trip to Egypt, the characters original to the piece were a lot more original ...

My favourite JoJo lightnovel so far. Had never heard of 乙一 but apparently Maijo likes his stuff and that's all I needed to know to be sure it would be good. Again it's centered around OCs and a plot of revenge served cold. There's a lot of fun moments and enjoyable quotes, some broken 4th wall moments, we get to see the gang use their Stands in more daily situations, Okuyasu becomes a badass, overall a lovely, but sometimes despairing, tale.
Only downside was really the couple typos in the translation, I guess that's to be expected of a one-man team.
