I get the same feeling from both manga's, people ending up with "powers", and they have to fight each other to claim a title or a gift, art style's remind me of each other, though, they're different, characters are equal on several grounds.
1 - Children with epically pwning supernatural powers fighting each other.
2 - Teaming up; Mamodo and Bookowner, and Candidate and "that chosen junior high kid who then gains some special talents after being selected by the candidate"
3 - Battles and struggles to determine a worthy king (Gash's case, a King of the Mamodo World, and Ueki's case, King of the Celestial World hahaha ☺)
4 - Numerous vows to protect are made in both series...
both are with guys that have special powers and fighting for justice
- Both are non-human partnered with humans.
- Both are about friendship and to protect.
- Both are about fighting to become King(Gash Bell) or God (Law of Ueki).
Although for The Law of Ueki, it's only 1 side fights (the humans). Gash Bell is both the human and demon fight together.
Gash Bell is a much better series than Law of Ueki.

Shaman King and The Law of Ueki deal with a lot of the same topics, like, how both main characters couldn't care less about everything, the fights and the tournaments, and even the same kind of discussions between characters
1 - fights for a position as king (Shaman King and Celestial King)
2 - protagonists do not really give good reasons why they want to be king (Ueki is just doing it because the candidate who chose him is supposedly "testing" his abilities, and Yoh from Shaman King just wants to be king for his own selfishness and live a relaxing rest-of-his-life).
3 - "Teaming up" with partners, although Mr. K didn't really do anything in Law of Ueki except for being a spectator.
4 - Nature... quite some signs of Mother Nature going on, especially in Shaman King (Spirits, forests, traveling in Shaman King and Ueki planting trees in the first volume)
I've only read the first volume before typing this up, so this is all I can give you.
while reading Ueki, I got the same feeling as from Shaman King: light minded characters getting serious in battles, battles themselves and tournaments.

Similarities include: a god/goddess who appoints the protagonist as his/her candidate; fights between deities involving candidates; the promise of a wish to be granted by the deity if the candidate wins.
They both get power from a god to fulfill a wish.

The feel of it seems to match. Special Powers - Big Bad Guy.
Difference is Sami is more mature while Ueki is more childish.
Both are great! (^_^)/

Same creator, about people that fighting with unique power

The manga progresses on somewhat the same way, the character development is a bit faster in H&C, qua adulthood, but qua battle they're the same. The way characters get introduced, and the way everything works, really look alike.

Both of these shounen titles feature characters with unique abilities which they use for combat. Action is mostly exagerrated and corny; particularly in regard to way fights are set up.

|
Similarities include: over-the-top characters who have unique abilities; fights involving such characters; narratives that transpire mostly within a school setting.

Both anime's deal with several of the same issues, tho', they're done completely different. Main characters both use long-distance attack in almost the same style, while most of the characters look a like, and the plot has some issues that are the same. Both are completely different, yet, they give off that same vibe.

In both, a god/goddess gives the protagonist abilities for use in combat. The difference however are the motives. Both titles feature a good deal of action and comedy, as well as mixing in some romance.

Both manga's art are alike, while the main characters are almost identical ('cept for their IQ), the battle's bring the manga to a whole new level and the parts between the battle's (not so much in Zan) are a bit dramatic.
