Haruhi sticks out like a sore thumb as a poor, smart girl who got into the hoity-toity Ouran High School on talent alone. When she mistakenly wanders into the meeting room of the host club and breaks a valuable vase, she's recruited to join the club. Realistic and sarcastic, Haruhi isn't used to being around crazy people like the princely Tamaki, scheming Kyouya, silent Mori, immature Hunny, and devilish Hikaru and Kaoru, but she's got no choice if she ever wants to pay earn what she owes. Too bad the club is made for girls to come and be entertained by gorgeous guys -- and Haruhi's been mistaken for a boy!

Includes chapters of the story "Romantic Egoist" in various volumes, starring a pair of twins who play matchmaker with their fellow students, teachers and the like.

Note: The final volume contains a special bonus chapter where the group travels to Spain.

Ouran Koukou Host Club was published in English as Ouran High School Host Club by VIZ Media under the Shojo Beat imprint from July 5, 2005 to June 5, 2012. An 18-volume boxed-set including an exclusive notepad featuring character's art was released on November 6, 2012.

The only reason the Ouran anime is worth a watch is because it sets the stage for the manga. Yes, this series has to be the best I've EVER seen. The whole thing has a perfect layout, which gives us our fair share of both drama and comedy relief. It's fantastic.

The story is a 9. Because there are so many main characters, all introduced at around the same time, the beginning takes a bit of time to get into. It is full of filler chapters that set the stage for what's to come. You see, in these introductory chapters, you learn a little bit about read more

I would really recommend this manga to anyone who loved the anime. The anime is a great adaption and tells the story almost exactly as it was in the manga, however it's not as progressive. Nothing much happens in the anime but once you get to around chapter 40 then it will really pick up the pace.

Also, guys, don't be afraid to pick up this manga and don't be deterred by the shojo tag. The story behind it is quite good too.

Why did I give the story a 9? Because it can be slow at times. Some pieces will drag a tiny bit while read more

If you loved the anime, you are probably going to fall in love with the manga. It has all the crazy antics of the host club with never a dull moment but then it adds onto it with a much deeper story line. Though it loses its comedic value to an extent, the serious nature gives the characters so much more depth. This is one manga that I can say; you need to read it all even if you watched the manga because there is so much more to the stories that were shown on TV.

There are a couple people who change very drastically in read more

Even though Ouran is definitely in my top 10 favorite manga, I'm going to be as honest as I can here. When I'm reading it, I notice a few mistakes or at least some things that could be improved but I still find it an enjoyable manga nontheless. There is a slight spoiler alert. Hopefully, you'll forget before you start the manga. Anyway, let's begin!

Overall Grade: 9/10 (actual: 8.5/10)

Story: 7/10

In the...let's say at least first 9 volumes of the series there's basically no substantial plot other than "a commoner girl attends a school for rich people and breaks a very expensive vase that belonged to read more

Manga: Hanazakari no Kimitachi e
Both have incredible comical aspects to the stories as well as a slight incorporation of drama. Additionally, they're both based during the main actresses' high school days. And, well, the main protagonists cross-dress, and are admired by main male students. Really, both stories have similar plots except Hana-Kimi is driven with one major goal while Ouran continues many episodes of stories that seem to not lead to a major plot ending as of yet, at least. Both are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for the comedy and just overall amazingness of each story.

Manga: Gokuraku Seishun Hockey Club
Both series has a boy club that admits a girl that acts like a boy. All the boys are insanely rich while the girl is middle class. The leader of the club has a big crush on the girl, but they don't want to admit it.

Manga: Beauty Pop
A realistic, snarky girl is thrust into the world of an over-the-top club of boys in her school. These are lighthearted shoujo series that are similar in both premise and sense of humor and fun.

Manga: Kaichou wa Maid-sama!
Similar sort of humour, and both have strong female leads. Both are very enjoyable too.

Manga: Hana yori Dango
Haruhi Fujioka and Tsukushi Makino are both poor girls at elite schools. They both aren't the type of people who "center" around the most popular guy [Tamaki and Tsukasa]. And they are both high school stories.

Manga: Special A
Special A is similar to Ouran because of the similar situations. Hikari (Special A) is a poor student attending a rich private academy who worked her way up to become second in her school. Haruhi (Ouran) is also a poor student on scholarship attending a rich private academy. Both girls seem to be oblivious to the potential love interests around them.
