SynopsisWhen Mink rushes to buy the latest CD by her favorite pop star, Illiya, she winds up instead with a software disc from the future that allows her to become whomever she wants. When she and her friends decide to program a Cyber Idol version of herself, all Mink's dreams come true. In fact, she is soon discovered as the next 'It Girl' and causes quite the pop culture sensation. However, Mink cannot reveal her true identity to anyone because using software from the future is a serious crime--and being caught could result in her 'deletion.' (Source: Tokyopop) |

Mink is a regular girl in middle school. She fawns over idols and has two very good friends who match and complete her. Though, one day, Mink buys her idol's new CD and as she is about to leave, a boy crashes his motorcycle and scares her half to death, sending the CDs scrambling. The boy pays for them and Mink buys her copy. She puts the CD in her CD player and find out that the CD is actually Life-Changing Software from the future!! Though, if they get caught using it or Mink's true identity is found out...
THEY'LL BE DELETED!!
I really like how 'delete' is used instead of 'killed' or 'wiped off the face of the earth'. But anyway, this series is actually is something Tachikawa-sensei never intended to make. Though, the story is full of new things we haven't really seen before, and actually mimicks the true Hollywood to a tee. It may not be totally original but manages to be pretty good anyway.
The art is wonderful, and is perfect until you see the sideviews. The art it's self looks like an older Shojou manga than the current slews of Kitchen Princesses and Fruits Baskets. Think more 1970-80's like. So if you're more a fan of huge, face engulfing eyes and skinny necked beauties, this art might not fit your fancy too much.
The characters are vivid. There are so many characters to actually HATE in this series. The amount of characters likely to be hated by the reader is almost 2/3 of the cast. Johnny Hotta, Azumi, and even little naive Yuka are likely to be hated and you will cheer Mink on in her quest to be an idol and acquire her love. Though, the characters you will probably like are slim, and bad guys galore, there still leaves something to be desired.
You will enjoy this if your a huge Music/Entertainment buff and if you find Shojou appealing. It isnt faulty or horrible, you could even find yourself laughing or crying with the characters and feeling bad for them. If you want to give a good, lesser know manga a try, you should go with MINK. read more
