SynopsisA collection of short stories, each split into two parts, all based on the famous otome game and anime series, Hakuouki, which follows Yukimura Chizuru as she begins her journey to find her missing father in Kyo and meets members of the Shinsengumi, who harbor an awful secret. Each story is written by different authors and is meant to individually highlight Chizuru's relationship with one of the main characters of the series. Consequently, there is a story dedicated to Hijikata, Okita, Saitou, Harada, and Heisuke. |

The plot: interesting, the setup: confusing. I gave it a four because "decent" sounds better than "mediocre."
I'm not quite sure what to think of this manga. It has quite a bit of potential, but it's story is too short and cluttered to tell what's really going on in it. Throughout the story, there seems to be a few flashbacks explaining things. These aren't well organized and they just confused me even more.
Since it's based on a game, I can assume only the people that have played the game really have an idea of what's happening. If you haven't, it's likely that you'll be somewhat confused.
I've also looked it up and it seems that it's soon to be an anime. I'll look forward to watching this and hope for the best.
To sum it up, I'd say not to get involved in it if you're only wanting to read the manga. But, if you've played the game or are interested in watching the anime, I think it's worth a shot. read more

Since I have been a fan of the artist's works, I've also been interested on the game which this is based off. The game is actually Japan exclusive so it was kind of depressing since this manga only tackled an in-dept story behind the major characters' lives... and without knowing what happened in the game, you won't actually get why the characters in the manga are like that xD

The stories of both manga happen in the Edo period, so Shinsengumi are involved. The art is also somehow similar, since the author of Ichi is one of the people who is responsible for the art in Hakuouki Junrenka. I also kinda get the same feeling while reading, even though Ichi doesn't contain romance, at least for now...

the stories both set place in the edo period. They both have the same Characters like in the shinsengumi: hijikata toshizo,okita souji,kondo isami and shinpachi. Only hakuouki is more serious than gintama. Gintama is more comedy both there both good to read
