Synopsis

Verde, a powerful and secret organization that controls the world has a new leader. The only thing that stands in its way is an unlikely character, Kujou Shin, the king of pessimists. He has no attachments to anything or anyone and feels no hesitation at dying. He is unwillingly dragged into a fight for the most powerful position in the world, the leader of Verde. Well, when I finished reading the manga, I knew I had to review. This is the first time I reviewed on a manga.

First things first, the main character is a total pessimist which offers something new. His thought process is kind of unique? I must say. He is the most pessimistic character I have met.

The side characters are a bit lacking in my opinion. Not much of a total development considering that there are only 20 chapters, but the main character has certainly grown.

En Passant was a nice short manga. Simple charecters who in reality have supernatural powers and are playing a dangerous deadly game so the winner can rule over the world. In those 20 chapters we could see some good stuff, about the day-by-day of some high school students, some nice fights and a lot of laughs. The thing I liked the most is that each character is a personification of a feeling, were his/her actions are based on the mood or humor they are feeling in the moment, and this surely affect the plot as the story progresses. Since I noticed a lack of reviews for this series I will be writing one, but a short one, nevertheless.

En passant is a chess move which can occur "immediately after a player moves a pawn two squares forward from its starting position, and an enemy pawn could have captured it had it moved only one square forward. The opponent captures the just-moved pawn as if taking it "as it passes" through the first square" (Wikipedia). It makes sense for a series with Chess as the plot theme.
