Shirokuro Kitan (Manga)

Personally, I don't really write to many reviews since I'm not very exceptional at it but this manga needed some justice. There is so many things to say about this manga considering the rarity of it. Although, of course theres a few quirks but if you are the type of person I am you will enjoy it regardless. The story starts off a bit slow with a girl named Ririko who had just lost her father under strange circumstances and is only left with a mysterious card. Along the way she meets two quite interesting characters. One named Shirou who is serious, smart, and hates the responsibility hes been given and another named Kurokichi who is strange, quirky and quite mysterious for the most part. Both have distinct personalities and for me make the story quite interesting. It reminds me a bit of the setup in Zombie-Loan almost to be honest. But yeah, some notable things I should say about this manga is it seems to be directed towards a alternative audience. So if you do not enjoy crude, obscure, dark, colorful, bruting, and highly contrasted things then this manga may not be for you. The story does has its downfalls but the artwork tends to make up for that as well does the distinct settings and unique dark atmosphere with psychotic characters and interesting elements surrounding them. Also this has nothing satanic, illuminati, or cult related type things. If anyone does claim this to be true then they are just spouting nonsense, this is as about satanic as Naruto. Seriously, conspiracy theorists please stop. This is just a manga with a gothic type feel to it and is why it has such peculiar elements involved in it. So please read it for yourself and decide whether or not you like it, who knows, if you enjoy that sort of thing then this may quite possibly turn out to be one of your favorites. read more

Ririko is an annoying skull-picture-clad girl whose father had just died. And instead of leaving the mystery to the clueless cops, she decides she wants to play hero and nab the criminal herself. And so she arrives in Kaminoshiro armed with her limited wits, a mysterious black card and her righteous thinking.

And she gets utterly no where.

For an awfully perverse story, it gets completely no where.
For example, we get told of a mysterious black clocktower that has corpses lying around it on occasion and a bunch of crazy kids are the culprits.

Ahm, where are the police?

Are they just there for one caption looking completely lost and that’s it?

Well, anyway, Ririko makes buddies with two girls and has a (stereotypical) bad eating habit which includes her eating sandwich after sandwich (I don’t know why people find this cute, to be honest). She asks one of her friends about the strange black clocktower and she doesn’t get an answer…

The art stings the eyes; you get your eyes tearing in the middle of the page from its suspicious contrasts between black and white, true to the story’s name, it has no grey which would have softened the pain in my eyes measurably. There were hypnotic contrasts in huge plate-like (in more than one respect) eyes, like the ones the main character has. You can’t miss them, they are the crrrraaazay-psychotic eyes that are SO hard to find and that I KNOW you all love and adore. As usual, there was a severe lack of any detail what’s so ever and there was a rather shady amount of proportion. Which means art: thumbs down.


IDEOLOGIES AND THEMES [paragraph]
There is a constant reminder of duality in this story because of the black-and-white sequencing contrasts prevalent in the Manga, and

There is a myriad of general skull decorations (and you know what that means!), checkerboard designs (I’m giving you another hint) and very...

You might say...

Blatant images, such as a shirt the main character wore in Chapter one with a horned skull on it and a symbol of the cross on top of its head (deholification, anyone?).

The Manga definitely had dark, perverse themes and the subjects of possession, cannibalism, nudity (NOT the kind that you can, in anyway, digest), manipulation, sacrifice, magic resulting from sacrifice, puppetry (AKA MK Ultra-type slavery) and torture (some sexual torture appears as well) are apparent.

I SWEAR I’m not making this up as I go.

Oh and there were plenty of black candles which generally appear in black magic and witchcraft.
Spelling out perfectly illuminati brainwash.

There is a particularly heavy presence within the plot, created by fixed sick ideologies and personalities, that do lean towards suicidal thoughts some times… Most of the time… All the time.

The indication of duality again springs up, in the sense that all these sick happenings happen within a catholic school (why the hate on catholics?) and we see small crosses and other christian symbols amongst the pages.

A great example on how the Manga tries to twist, deholify and introduce some perverse ideas all in one go is in Chapter six.
Its’ cover: a transvestite with an apple (supposedly the fruit of evil) wearing a pleated plaid dress.

We have another great link to the illuminati MK Ultra slaves in the character Itsuru Magakumo; the boy has a split personality, each with a different gender, which is alluded to have come from extreme abuse. He is the transvestite on the cover of Chapter 6 and has a lot of symbols (I can’t go through EVERYTHING, can I?) surrounding him insinuating that he has Dissociative Identity Disorder (D.I.D.). Through his behaviour, what he says; “I know I’m trash”; of all the slaves in the story, he gets the only sympathy from me because he’s treated the worst.
Oh and through him, the author tries to popularise masochism (I know, it sounds sad [not depressed sad, but stupid sad]).

Then we’ve got Pierrot who is always mentioned by using the key word ‘father’, this behaviour is extremely similar to how sadistic illuminati scientist Mendel [who initially worked with the Germans in WW2] was called by his test subjects who were primarily children.

[indeed, he is and always will be a monster].


Some food for MORE thinking: this is a quote from the Manga, it is quite interesting:
“Raiya Hisumi
Has the ability to grant other people the power to control puppets. He seems like a doll too.”

Anyway, trying extremely hard to come to a close on this almost never-ending Ideologies-and-Themes-paragraph (because it’s still JUST a paragraph, heheh), I want to say that there are strong Alice-in-wonderland-y scenes in the Manga.

And ALL (yes, all) this surrounds the idea of 'Malice' (codename: magic), and the duality between white and black as obviously depicted by the names of the characters namely Kurokichi and Otori Shirou (the latter could be translated into white phoenix [what an unthinkable coincidence, eh?]), and the not-so-subtle hints within the story. Did you notice that their names merge to form the title of the story =Shiroukuro?

Oh, what a double-coincidence:

White and black

Which is very similar to…

Black and white which leads us back to…

Duality!

Yes I know, I am a complete genius to actually use the technique of reversing things that the illuminati routinely practice in practically everything.

Further more, I'm more than a little skeptical about some of the other character names since they most definitely have sub-meanings as seen with Kurokichi and Shirou.

Overall, pathetic. Enjoyment, pathetic. All in all, it is pathetic. Boring and mind-numbing. Not recommended and it was a rough, tough gauntlet trying to finish the chapters, go read something not so blatantly brainwashing, s'il vous plait.

Well, let's begin...

Story - 3/10 I had no idea what was going on. It was so confusing and rushed, I feel like it would have been a lot better if they slowed it down. It seems like they're trying WAAAAY too hard to put gothic / psychological themes in it. This manga reminds me so much of Pandora Hearts. It's like a combination of Pandora Hearts, Black butler, and Death Note. I'll go on more about this in the art and character section.

Art - 8/10 I liked it. I feel like they over did it with the gothic ness though, because the girl is like wearing... skulls everywhere and spider web leggings. The art reminds me of Black Butler, like the way they draw the eyes.

Character - 5/10 Oh god, I didn't give the character a high rating because I've seen them in other mangas before. The main girl... doesn't she remind you of Misa from Death note? The hair... the personality... The black haired guy wearing the hat... doesn't he remind you of a combination of Gilbert from Pandora Hearts and L from Death note? I mean... the outfit.. the hat.. the hair... and then the eyes look like L's from Death Note. I guess he's too lazy to be L from Death note... but still........ Now for 4 eyes, doesn't he remind you of a colder version of Light from Death note? And then the other characters... I swear I saw a guy wearing a hat that reminded me of Break from Pandora hearts...

Enjoyment - 4/10 Art was nice to look at, there were a FEW funny moments here and there. Story was confusing and boring and was too fast. I think they added way to many psychological scenes that weren't really needed.

Overall - 4.5/10 Well... if you like gothic style mangas and pigtails, go ahead and read this. This isn't the WORST I've seen, but definitely not the best. The story could have gone pretty nicely...
