Reliving the DRRR!! plotline is fun, and that's why I loved what I read of the manga. It's complex, it's confusing, and it's full of fun. The characters are all so unique, and they all have their own personal growth as the story progresses. It's wonderful; it really is.
BUT, the only way you can feel this way towards the manga is if you've SEEN THE ANIME. Without it, you'll be lost, and terribly, terribly puzzled. When you come to find out what direction each characters' story takes, it will help you understand their beginnings in the manga.

I admit, it really IS a little confusing.
The first chapters suddenly throw you into the story, while the whole plot, involving (almost) every charcter, is partially shown to you.
The art too, isn't what i would call outstanding, it looks better in the Anime...
If you read all the currently available chapters and you stlii haven't understood it yet, i recommend to watch the anime.
That's what i have done (from the beginning) and i must say that the story has a lot of twists and is a little complex, but very enjoyable.
Don't worry, the big lump of storyline that has been thrown at you in the first chapters will be cleared and explained soon.
The setting of the story is in Tokio, and the story really gives off an urban vibe.
In the End I really recommend this manga to people who like (more or less) innocent and gentle main characters that have to deal with not very suitable things...
I'd compare the situation of "Mikado" to the main characters of Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, Deadmen Wonderland...
Please try it out!
It's really amazing~

There are subtle clues as to what is going on in the plot and if you don't pay attention, you aren't going to get it until they really begin to explain whats going on. (Which they haven't really, they just elude to everything and seem to think [or hope] you'll get it.) The plot isn't very clear so far, but as the story progresses there should be a decent climax.
The black rider isn't given a real cool, elaborate costume. The characters' hair is done in that lumped-up 10 line bit instead of complex lines where you can see different layers where they should be, how the hair lines back for a ponytail, etc. The art may be simplistic as far as character design goes, but I think that for a story that has so much going on the art makes it a bit easier to understand. The clean lines make it easier for the story to develop via dialogue.
Many of the characters seem rather one-dimensional. Stalker girl just keeps going and going after Seiji, Izayu is crazy as sin, and our main man is just a normal high school student with dreams of something more. Hopefully as the story continues there will be more of an obvious growth for the character, but it doesn't look like it will happen any time soon.
Somehow I found myself pretty entertained by this, even though its flaws are very apparent. If you have time to kill and find yourself reading Durarara!!, be prepared to be left with a "WTF did I just read?!" feeling. read more

As I was reading, I didn't know up from down. It's all there, all of it, the characters are there, the theme is okay but I (the reader) didn't understand any of it!
How the story is told is awful, its been over a volume...
And I still don't know crap!
So the story is dribble, the characters are a huge question mark and the themes are quite repulsive in their incestuous, etc. ways.
The only thing I can safely say is that the art was okay but I keep asking myself:
What's up with those retarded eyes!
They are just plain weird, the details are non-existent and (the cherry on top) the art is just plain.
Definitely a boring read.
It's just not worth it. read more

I read the manga first so to me it was very good because it draws you to the DRRR!! universe and it explains you some of the not very cleared things in the anime.
I think if you want to read the manga first go ahead, if you already watched the anime don't bother. you'll only get very confused or you'll get bored.
And if you haven't read the manga yet, since vol. 3 and 4 aren't translated yet, don't bother, watch the anime because then you'll get all stressed because of the only 2 volumes translated.
