How did this manhwa become so good? This Otome Isekai manhwa starts out ok, gets super frustrating and then all of a sudden becomes really good. Somehow around half way through the manhwa completely changes from being a mediocre romance between two mediocre characters into a very interesting and engaging political struggle with really interesting metacontextual elements that the manhwa plays with fantastically. Please stick around until the change happens, it might be hard but it's worth it.
The shtick of this manhwa is that this girl is reincarnated into a book she read (kinda). She is the love interest, Maise Hazelnut, that is abandoned by
...
the male lead (some hero guy who is supposed to defeat the demon lord eventually). Knowing this is coming she tries to change the original male lead, Sucre Ginger, but he's too much of a dumb fuckboy to change lol. Maise breaks up with him (and no longer needs to pretend to be novel Maise who's body she took over) and eventually meets Eith Lancell. They get along and start going out, the problem being that he's lying about who he is because he is actually the demon lord.
Naturally this kind of lie gets drawn old and gets really out really fast. The manga even goes as far as having Eith marry Maise without her knowing. Eventually this whole card tower comes crashing down when the fuckboy comes back and reveals Eith as the demon lord. I skipped over a ton of detail, but that's because this is the only the first third and definitely the worst part of the manhwa.
From there a really compelling world is painted, Maise is taken to the demon castle and find that demons are alien like in their emotions. But more interesting is the actual plot. Apparently the three fates (yes, the ones from Greek mythology) have had this world on repeat for a very long time. Once the plot of the world ends (Eith dying at the hands of the fuckboy) everything rewinds and starts over from the beginning. The fates take great pleasure in the suffering of the world and took even more pleasure when some of the "characters" became self-aware and tried to break the cycle. The manhwa becomes a huge war against the fates, trying to break out of a cycle that has tormented the demons forever, all the meanwhile the fates mess with the original novel's characters to suit their own sadistic plan. It's a very interesting premise that manages to stay fun all the way till the end.
If you can get past the melodrama in the first third of this manhwa, you'll discover a very unique Otome Isekai with a ton of charm and memorable moments.
