During the time when the world is full of barren lands and big ships sail out to the vast oceans, a very rare type of sub-human–mermaid–was born. Normally, they have white hair, but only in water does the color change. Among the aristocrats, they are traded for large sums of money. Hisui is a merman with scarlet hair, and he’s kept by a lord. However, as he’s stolen away by the pirate Ikuta and gains freedom, they start their journey together!

I just love this. I like the art, the story, the comedy and the moe moments. I like the Shounen Ai tendencies: it's very light with more 'i want to protect you' bonding which tugs a few heart strings and is really touching :3

So as the synopsis says: a mermaid escapes from his owner and gets picked up by a pirate. The pirate isn't what he seems as he is kind, funny and wants to protect Hisui (the Mermaid), so Hisui joins the pirates and they set out on adventures.

The plot is simple and is typical Shoujo really: has comedy, light fluffy romance and some read more

KtN likely took some inspiration from YnM. Ikuta has goofy mannerisms that hide a painful past like Tsuzuki. Hisui is "special" and alternatively sweet and abrasive like Hisoka (but less extreme); both need the other's protection, but want to become more useful. Matsushita claims YnM is not BL, yet loaded it with rather unsubtle subtext. KtN is similar in that it the characters seem straight, yet it often veers a little too far over that bromance line.
Both have pirates and a mermaid/princess.
