SynopsisGraduate student Souichi Tatsumi is demanding, violent, tyrannical... and a homophobe. So, it's unfortunate that his best assets are a beacon to the homosexual eye: his ass and crotch. Unfortunate, indeed--for both him and his underclassman -slash- lab assistant, Tetsuhiro Morinaga, who is hopelessly in love with those assets despite the threat to his own personal safety.
Morinaga longs to tell Tatsumi how he feels, not to mention other longings... but, given Tatsumi's personality, Morinaga has a better chance of winning the lottery.
It's a hot romantic comedy about love, lust, and--yes--C&A

The basic idea of 'The Tyrant Falls in Love' is very catchy and unique. The title itself indicates a contrasting story concept and straightforwardly discloses the rough but humorous theme of the manga. Though as events take on their course, the whole plot gains a deeper meaning and becomes a lot more emotional. One eventful chapter follows another and the constantly dynamic pace makes it hard to get bored while reading. Another rare thing about Tyrant is, that it actually shows how difficult it is growing up and being a homosexual, especially when the family turns their back on you, which is pictured very convincingly in later chapters as we're introduced to Mori's past. But no matter how angsty the story gets, there is always a bit of humor involved, making the ensemble more appealing.
Takanaga's main characters do not exactly fit into the standard scheme of usual boy's love characters, which makes another aspect of this manga a lot more exciting and clingy.
The role of the seme is rather affectionate and introverted, quite the contrary to the aggressive, untamed and bullying uke. Such unwontedness in the yaoi genre is either rare or unconvincingly impersonated. Those role assignation in 'The Tyrant Who Falls in Love' however work out pretty naturally.
It's nearly impossible not to grow fond of Mori and Soichi, because with each continuing volume you get to know more and more facets of their personalities and eventually they get under your skin.
The art style is good enough. Nothing too special or innovative about it, even though the mangaka did a good job expressing all the sparkling emotions... especially when it comes to those romantic scenes and the parts where they fight.
As for the enjoyment. Well I had my fun with it. Actually lots of it. You suffer and cheer through all ups and downs along with those two trippy lovebirds. It reads well and you get hooked almost instantly. So if you're a fan of boy's love this series should be the next on your to-read list. read more

Here we have a story about the goofy Morinaga who has been hopelessly in love, for 5 years, with his egotistical-violent-grumpy- homophobe sempai, Souichi…ahem!, yes, that is The Tyrant.
You guys maybe have seen lots of these stories, so, the conspicuous word here would be homophobe, this is not an euphemism, Souichi hates homosexuals deeply since his little brother was “taken” by one (figures, we have also a brother complex here). But isn’t is kind of strange that in spite of knowing about Morinaga’s crush on him he acts like that didn’t happen at all?
As expected, our "poor" goofy guy feels that there is nothing more to lose and throws himself at what he thinks is his only life chance to do something with his yearning and he is going to grab onto it in any way he can. But wait a minute guys, there is nothing to be taken for granted here! You are going to get surprised and you are going to be driven by the humorous situations, until you slowly get a grasp of the character’s virtues and flaws, until you get to understand their lives, and that there is a lot more to them that adds complexity to the story.
Did I say this is hilarious? The comedy takes a big part of the picture, still managing to deliver deep feelings at the bottom of every insane situation. The whole feeling of the story is completed with the eroticism produced by the uncertainty of every intimate situation. Weird? This is what I like the most! An homophobe guy can’t fall in love with another one from one day to other!! So, we have a very close to reality case here… everything develops at a proper pace.
The art is not what you would call Beautiful, it is nice..it manages to be romantic, sexy and comical at the same time. It is a very unique style and it grows on you as the most fitting to the story. The character’s design is lovely, long hair and glasses, with an everlasting frown, to the grumpy and smart Souichi, perfect for a beautiful tyrant, and this cute puppy blushing face to Morinaga that manages to keep being cute ---plus sexy—when he starts acting a bit (?) lewd. Expressions are ok, they managed to convey the feelings along with the dialogues, that are not that deep but state what needs to be said, no more nor less.
You’ll even get to love that appealing tyrant--and his long hair, with all his flaws and quirks, as you get to know how honest and caring he is with the ones that are important to him; as well as you can’t help but sympathize with Morinaga’s nice and easygoing attitude, whose loyalty is really admirable, getting amused by his wholehearted and pervy behavior, while the whole time you are thinking “work hard Morinaga!”
If you are looking for a funny and interesting story, where you can see love develop against the society problems and prejudgments, even between the involved ones; a story with alluring situations and a real plot to support them, without ruining the proper pace of things, then, this is a nice choice!

Both yaoi, involving love between a gay and a "straight" guy.
Good romantic stories about a "straight" guy and his gay friend. Both have great art.
