Clamp began to recieve hype with the publication of Magic Knight Rayearth. Here, you can find the original Mokona! <3 It is a magnificent story where three girls - Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu - are transported into a magical other world that they must save. It is a very nice, short story spanning over three volumes. Highly reccomended!
In both, a group of people, who unfamiliar with each other, teleported to a different world and must accomplish their mission before returnning back home.
Step by step, the strangers become good friends and work as a team in order to finish their task.
Both manga have fantasy ,adventures, fights, comedy and drama.
They are both created by Clamp and have some crossover characters, like the cute rabbit like creature Mokona.
Both have Mokona in them and both of them have a fairly epic plot. In Magic Knight Rayearth, three girls are transported into some magical world that they must save. In Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE, three men become allies as they travel through dimensions for different purposes (and there's also a princess who tags along).
To be honest, it seems like Magic Knight Rayearth is the shojo version of Tsubasa, and Tsubasa is the shonen version of Magic Knight Rayearth. However, both contain lots of elements that will appeal to fans of both shojo and shonen.

Magic Knight Rayearth and Angelic Layer are not that similar in terms of storyline, but if you want to check who inspired Suzuhara Misaki and her angel Hikaru, reading the first series of Rayearth is a good call.
Shidou Hikaru has the same determination and fighting spirit of Misaki/Hikaru. Read both series and compare the development of these two "little" girls with a lot of challenges to win in their lives.

If you like the mix mecha/romance, so you must try Magic Knight Rayearth too! RahXephon has more reality in the storyline, and on the other hand Rayearth is based in magic and fantasy. Besides the big background differences, they have the same essence.
