Devil-chi. The hentai that wasn't. And I mean that in the most positive way possible.

It's not often that you see a succubus in anime or manga, and when you do, it's in Hentai and Dojinshis. The basic concept behind the series, isn't the most original, but it has the most original twist available.

the characters look amazing, and they are drawn with so much detail that at times, I'm more scared for myself than for the main character, which is a very good thing. the main character is relate-able, and very cliche. He is a closet pervert who gets exposed often, and dense, but he is ... not so dense that it would take a tank to get it into his head that a girl likes him (I still cant believe that it is an actual thing either!).

The main conflicts are not what I was expecting at all. there is the tension between the angels and devils, of course, but it's secondary to us watching our main characters fall in love and try to learn how to be in love. There are other characters that step in to try to break up the young couple, and I do believe that this is the source of the main conflict, although I am not so sure since there are multiple conflicts going on at the same time.

Overall, this is a very fun and lighthearted story that has it's own share of cliches, all of which are used in an enjoyable manner. The characters are all fun to be around. And for once, the succubus has a place outside of Hentai and Dojinshis.

This is a hentai that wasn't allowed to be a hentai, it probably would have been rated higher if it was a hentai because the limitations of being a normal manga make it very clear how much this is meant to be a hentai and not have the characters and plot as the main focus.

Honestly the plot is mediocre, the action is mediocre and the characters are mediocre. They are alright but nothing special, I think where the majority of the dislike towards this manga comes from is in the later chapters and that's where the spoilers come in.

They are told to keep her power ... in check she needs to have a bunch of kids, presumably with the mc but holy shit is this just a downhill spiral. First the whole "if you have sex and don't love each other with that demon pact you will die" thing is so stupid but whatever that's not even the biggest offender. The biggest offender is how fucking dense both the mc and fmc are towards each other. They obviously love each other and they obviously want to be with each other but the mc is constantly wondering if she actually loves him even though it's painfully obvious so we go tons of chapters of worrying over nothing. And with this trend I have a feeling this worrying about nothing will continue for a long time and I've seen dense characters but this is by far the worst portrayal of them that I've ever seen. It's not a bad read, but it's not very enjoyable either.

So this is the type of manga where you see it, read a bit, and honestly it became a bit stale.

Devilchi in the beginning talks about a half succubus and a random guy who she made a chigiri with which is basically just a promise for marriage. It revolves around that and these people who need to remove her devilish powers or she could destroy the world.

Currently its sort of becoming what i dislike most about some well-hearted romance stories and that's that to overcome this conflict you MUST love each other. And that's basically what it boils down to.

The only reason ... I make this review is because the only other one is touting it as a 10/10 and obviously they are entitled to that opinion but I just don't agree and this is why.

I think the characters can be okay, a lot of the villians try to be more villany than they need to be especially because without a clear enemy for this type of story it doesn't really make sense why you need to remove one of the main protagonists and then the reasoning they hold is also one of the better ones with the whole world ending thing being overused but not bad in any sense of the word.

The main problem I have is that to continue the plot and further anything instead of having the romantic interests push onto each other like an actual relationship the most hentai-esque plot comes out of nowhere and forces them to love each other. It would've been fine if it was something else that they needed to go get or something or fight something or anything else that increased their romantic relationship along the way but the fact that they NEED to love each other to save the world when they already clearly do is silly as fuck.

Besides that there are some points in the plot where things dont make sense or they shoe-horn in characters that are easily beaten in ways that just shouldn't happen, they deus ex machina fights and give our MC powers he didnt have. That aside though there are some good points about the story.

The romance is complete, the secret and gimmick is fleshed out and less of just a gimmick to set a setting, characters have actual development etc etc. But it's mid tier for me.
