Shi Hwa Mong (Manhwa)

Finally - another manwha I enjoy!

I really struggle with the manwha - I can think of 3 off the top of my head that I enjoy. And there are two main problems

1) the similarity in the story line (think new girl falls in love with school gang leader and there are most of them) and

2) I can never keep the characters, or the character names straight in my head. (this is totally my issue, and nothing to do with the writing, but it still makes it hard to follow the story).

so - Shi Hwa Mong. A story about triplets who were raised in separate countries and come together. This is what happens when they are all back in Korea.

It is first and foremost a romance. There is a bit of comedy (I was reading this when I should have been working and struggling to not laugh out loud on a few occasions).

There are a few plot twists and turns, the artwork is gorgeous (I think!), and strangely I haev been able to keep all the names of the characters in my head. It is sometimes hard to tell Mong and Shi apart, but that is ok - they are triplets, and as soon as they start to speak, you know who is who. There is some lovely characteristation.

The triplets are each strong characters in their own rights, and the love interests, family, the weird new guy, each have a very distinct flavour. It is well done.

Shi Hwa Mong so far (and I have read volume 10) is just delightful. there are three more volumes to go, and I am eagerly awaiting their translation! read more
