action comedy magic school

During a flashback, an interviewer inquires Kuzumi Taiga, a prospective student for Seinagi Private High School, on what he would do if he could use magic, during his entrance interview. He replies, "take over the world", with an outburst of laughter, from an attractive girl, following his answer. After the entrance exam, the school rejects his application; although he recalls almost nothing after this event, he does recall the girl, and believes the cause of his school of choice rejecting his application involves her. Wandering around outside of the school the next day, Kuzumi tries to enter, but an invisible barrier blocks him. A teacher, Mr. Hiiragi, confuses Kuzumi for a student of the school ditching class and pulls Kuzumi into the school through the barrier. Seinagi Private High School is actually a magic school; Kuzumi is a teenager with no magical skill.

Mx0 is a Shounen, Supernatural, Action, Romantic, Comedy that tries to do so much, of what has already been done before, but it does it all fantastically well.

The story follows your not-so-typical delinquent student (Taiga Kuzumi) who wasn’t able to get into “Seinagi Private High School” and he believes it’s the cause of a certain girl (Aika Hiiragi) during the interview. So he breaks into the school to meet her again but he’s surprised to discover that it is a magic school and after a hilarious twist of events he ends up transferring as a student of the school. Not so surprising for a shounen read more

One of the funniest manga I have read. Story could be slightly better, although it is still on a very high level. Art is very clear and indeed "great". You don't stop at one point thinking "what was that? what jus happened? did I miss something...?". Every fight, every move is shown. Characters in Mx0 are going to be remebered by you for a long time. Mostly the main character Kuzumi Taiga, but also others are developed physically and mentally. And the enjoyment of the series is undoubtful. Every time there's something going on and so you have no occasion to be bored.

Well, I just finished reading Mx0. What can I say? It is a truly enjoyable series and I am sorry that it ended prematurely. The overall score I give is 9 out of 10, which is just 1 point less than what I gave Negima, another manga series of the magical school genre, so many years ago.

The presentation of magic is creative. Instead of the traditional wands and broomsticks in other works of the same genre, namely Harry Potter and Negima, they use cards to cast spells in Mx0. And their card system is even more complex than those offered by commercial banks for their read more

Oh man this is suuuuuch a good manga all the way through EXCEPT for the ending! And it's not the mangaka's fault; WSJ cancelled it because it had low readership which honestly just baffles me.

It's about a kid who gets into a magic school by some crazy misunderstanding and then has to fend for himself at said magic school WITHOUT actually having magic (but everyone else thinks he's a gold magic user). I was hooked from the beginning; the art is really excellent (10+++++), the characters are lovable and well-developed, the story is fun and hilarious and interesting!!! IDG WHY read more

Similarities include: schools in which students learn how to become more proficient with magic; male protagonists who have unique positions within the school system due to their special ability; the many female characters who they oftentimes interact with; and an action-oriented narrative with many references to magic tropes.

Do note however that Mx0 is mostly light-hearted, whereas Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei has a more serious tone.
Both Rosario+Vampire and Mx0 are high school Supernatural, Rom/Coms; but R+V focuses more on monsters and the romantic comedy side of things, on the other hand Mx0 focuses more on its characters and magical wizardry. ^_^
Same author, similar characters
Both of the stories center around a student who is feared by most of the student body for being incredibly strong, but in reality they are one of the weakest in the story. This false belief is caused by misunderstandings when they first arrived at the school and is kept up by the main character's bluffs. Now, there is a difference in the stories because MxO is set in a magical school while Transfer Student takes place in an ordinary delinquent school.
If you like magic and adventure, I think these two manga are for you. The two can really feel like epic fairy tales at times. Mahou Sensei Negima! has a magic teacher in a normal school (normal?) whereas Mx0 has a normal guy in a magic school.
In these two serialisations, there is heavy emphasis on class battles. What is more is that battles between classes take on unorthodox forms. In Mx0, magic is used; whereas in Baka to Test, avatars are summoned to fight in an RPG style.
