SynopsisFran can make anyone into anything, raise the dead, switch heads and bodies and give you those eyes that you've always wanted. But do you actually want them? Is it a good thing to raise the dead? Do the ends justify the means? And does Fran care?

I think I've never come across manga like this. What drove me to Franken Fran was the fact that she looked like the perfect match for Dr. Stein from Soul Eater. "Stein can dissect, and Fran can put back together. Everybody wins." I just never thought it would be SOO specific, and... well.. bizarre. If you don't like VERY weird things, or unhappy endings, then this is not your kind of manga. Also, I may recommend you not to read this while you eat, is definably not a good idea.
The story is not a chapter by chapter follow-up, like most mangas. It's a series of short stories that revolves around Fran and her weird experiments involving human nature, and.... everything that involves ripping apart the laws which divide humans from animals, monsters, or whatever the case is. However, it does follow some sense of plot. Seemingly in the manga that Fran's experiments are done, and stay recorded in the manga, so sometimes you see the same experiment twice. Also, the encounter with her younger sister, and everything else follows up. It shows as if there's a main plot behind all the other main plots within the short stories. Since each short story consist of a primary plot, and is well developed, I would say an 8/10 is a very good rating.
The art is magnificent, it's truly so detailed that it will make you want to stop reading it, if you are not the kind of person who would stand very disgusting things, or REALLY awkward things. However, it is enough to make you feel shocked every now and then.
Character is one of the greatest things I've seen. Fran is really a very convincing character, and her moods within the story are shown to be that of a real individual who does not feel any different from a real being. Every other character that is shown in the manga more than 5 times such as Okita and Veronica also play very important roles at times that make the story even more interesting.
Enjoyment, this is something that depends completely on your choice. I can't really say you may like this manga. I'd say 60% to 55% of the people would most likely feel like dropping it after a few chapters read. However, if you are into these kind of stuff such as horror, or psychological amusement, I would say you may like it. This manga is that kind of manga that open your sense, and make you think widely, and diffently about things that surround you. Also... if you are a monkey see, monkey do, don't misinterpret me, but this manga might not be for you. This is just one of those mangas, like another person stated: "Either you love it, or you hate it."
Overall, I'd say this is a pretty good manga if you are looking for some chilling in your back. I honestly like it, not because of the story line, or how crude and awkward it is, but by the fact that the art, character, and enjoyment (In a scientific term) are really great, to me, at least. Really good manga, really well developed shorts, and really unpredictable endings to each short.
Overall, 10 out of 10 fits well. read more

I started this manga yesterday and read all 21 chapters of it. I ended up not being able to sleep without the light now. Actually, I the type of person who can't even stand to watch a horror movie let alone this. But somehow I did and quite enjoyed it. For many of the normal people out there who prefer main stream to all. This isn't the manga for you.
Story Line
Every chapter tells a different story. Either Fran goes to school, helps out dying people or preforms one of her crazy experiments. It's interesting and grabs my attention and after reading how gory things become, I just end up wanting more. But many of you might find the story too twisted and extremely inhumane.
Art Work
The art isn't anything to wow over but I do like how the creator drew Fran. She has a nice design. The rest of it is pretty much as creepy as hell. I admire them being able to draw to just an extent and giving me the sense of being scared as well as it's all just a manga.
Character
Limited to Fran, Victoria and Okita. Fran the main character is probably also the most developed. While her sister, Victoria and pet/friend Okita have a vast amount of mystery surrounding them. It's nice to have these characters which you are familiar with. In each chapter there's new characters that appear but do not reoccur(expect one policewoman and an old man).
Enjoyment
Either you love it or hate it. It really is one of those mangas. If you have a weak stomach(like me actually...) stay away. If you have a problem sleeping or rather would not want to sleep, read it. Very promising story line. It teaches you a little bio while you're at it. Although I'm unsure of how much it is true. Personally, I loved it. I can't wait till more chapters are out :D *I'm so messed.
Overall
Great manga. Interesting and grabbing. Stay away or never stop reading. Give it a try. But don't say I didn't warn you. - You might just not be able to sleep tonight. ;D

They are both considered twisted. Both main characters seems to have a series of unfortunate events where ever they go. Also in both manga not all events have a happy ending and basically both Fran and Count D. really do mean well and want to make their customers happy.
Fran (Franken Fran) and Count D (Petshop of Horrors) are out-of-the-ordinary individual very few people know.
They can give people waht they want or feel they need, only, what it is they recieve can prove the stuff of dreams or nightmares.
Both characters come across as exceptionally pleasant, yet on occasions, fairly sinister.
Both mangas have a similar feel to them. The character Count (psoh) and Fran (Franken Fran) are similar in the way that they both offer unique solutions to people. Both mangas include shocking stories, though Franken Fran seems to have a bit more gore in it than PSOH. Also they both are told in short stories that can be read independently from each other. Other than that they are both great reads!

Same mangaka; if you liked one, then you'll probably like the other. Plot-wise, they're significantly different but they have the same kind of feeling to it.
Franken Fran is more mature and contains a lot of gore, whereas Helen ESP is more lighthearted.
Helen ESP is authored and illustrated by the same mangaka, Kigitsu Katsuhira, as Franken Fran. Franken Fran is directed at horror and mature audiences while Helen ESP does not. In other words Helen ESP is a much tamer, enjoyable manga but still carries Kigitsu Katsuhira's style.
