SynopsisRyousuke Akiba calls himself ES, a code name taken from a mysterious scientific experiment. Ryousuke will live to be at least two centuries old and possesses strange mental powers: He can enter people's minds, discover their darkest secrets, even rearrange their memories so that complete strangers will treat him like family. Ryousuke acts not out of malice but for survival-wandering Tokyo for reasons known only to him. No one recognizes him for what he is . . . until Dr. Mine Kujyou, a determined researcher, meets someone who challenges everything she knows about science-ES, possessor of the Eternal Sabbath gene. But is he the only one?

Whenever I find a manga that qualifies as a masterpiece in my book, I feel the need to write a review. It is a silly compulsion, purely because I have little to say save "It's perfect".
The story and its development are smooth and natural, the characters are complex and lifelike. The ones which are not-so-human manage to capture the essence and ambiguity of what it means to be a human being. Eternal Sabbath is complex and simple at the same time, and it poses an eternal moral dilemma - is anybody born good or bad?
I loved everything in this manga. The sensitivity of the characters, their nature which is at the same time humane and animal-like. The action scenes packed with supernatural quality are mind blowing, and the analysis of the inner workings of the human brain is dumbfounding.
It's a must read. read more

To be able to take over someones thoughts, to go into peoples minds - thats an unseen ability, and by the story we can experience what its like. In talks I admire some analytical thoughts: about love, growing up, and self understanding. Also story touches about sientists morale, about humanity morale.. that we would rethink our point of view towards such.
I liked ES, as it was very interesting of mans with those abilities thoughts, and Dr. Mine Kujyou thoughts. Story was realistic, yet I personaly dont like too much dramatical scenes, Id like to see more things going well. I also liked the development of love between characters. end.
((And I have some thoughts after watching, DONT read as there might be some clues like spoil, still you wont understand much and I might not consider it as spoil: Good manga, I just didnt want so much characters to die, why cant there be like happy ending, with that girls mother getting along with doughter.. I gues it shows that ES were so dangerous, and I dont know is it good or not. I also wonder if in the end Shuro will take over the mind of baby, or it will be a new person? Anywayz, good manga, good ideas, made some copies of some pages with the thoughts.)) read more

Same type of assassin, a very psychologic story, characters trying to change their own lives.
The antagonists Johan and Isaac are VERY similar.
The psychology described in both manga is great and some what similar to each other.
Very similar in relation of how the assassins deal with people.... They both also have very psychological-filled plots.

Both deal with psychological themes and manipulation of death. In both manga, a character has the power to manipulate people's death. Izaku and Light are very similar in that they kill "bad people".
Both are intellectual-psychological manga's which have highly skilled protagonists and antagonists competing against each other for their own ideals. The difference between Eternal Sabbath and Death Note is that Eternal Sabbath is shorter, not as popular, and has some romantic content, but both stories are portrayed in somewhat similar styles that one would remind you of the other.
Direct quote from Eternal Sabbath:
"Someone who, in the name of righteousness, is punishing evil people in the world"
