Bi-Kwang is a handsome young warrior who becomes a drooling mess whenever he sees a pretty girl. Out on the road he meets an extraordinary swordfighter with no name who is searching for a legendary master warrior. Bi-Kwang promises to aid the swordfighter if he lets Bi-Kwang meet his beautiful sister. Of course, it turns out the swordfighter is the sister, Hwa-Rin Dahm, and she must switch identities to keep the plot moving along. Bi-Kwang is immediately smitten, and thus we have a triangle involving only two people.
The story takes place in a setting in each side is trying to unify the Murim as a whole, and while this is taking place, Bi-Kwang who is extremely good at learning martial arts but doesn't want to learn it, gets into a deal where he takes the girl to see her grand father since he was the last person to see him before he disappeared and on the way he encounters many enemies and some friends (who show up from time to time) and he matures since he realizes why martial arts is so important and that he has been using it wrongly.
Plot- The story revolves around Bi Kwang who is the 6th disciple of the most powerful master of the dark clan,Despite this Han Bi Kwang has no desire to learn martial arts and only wants women and live a peaceful life, but little did he know he is actually a genius. He is a true martial artist that is born only once per thousand years, out on the road he meets an extraordinary swordfighter Hwa-Rin (main female lead of the series) who is searching for a legendary master warrior.
- Reading this gem from last 2 days non-stop. Finally, I am at chapter 325, this manhwa has everything comedy, superpower action, great story and romance too. Basically, its a combination of DBZ and the breaker set in medieval Chinese times. Bi Kwang is just damn powerful he can learn any martial art moves just by seeing it once, though he doesn't knows about it or his extraordinary ki and he is a quite a pervert too, later he falls truly for Hwa-rin though that remains one-sided until the latest chapters. Now, for Hwa-rin she carries with her "The Sword of the Flower's Soul", one of the eight treasures of the land (just like Bi Kwang's fire dragon saber), which she inherited from her grand father who also happens to be the man known as "The Sword Emperor".
Story- 8.5/10 ( sometimes the misunderstandings in the plot becomes annoying)
Art-9/10 (Since its a really old manhwa of 90s, don't except too much but the artwork of the current chapters are improved a lot)
Characters- 9/10 ( Hwa-rin is one of the strongest female lead I have seen in a series that has more than 300 chapters, as for Bi Kwang he is your typical shounen character who gets stronger by each fight)
Enjoyment- 9.5/10 ( As the story progress, I got hooked up with manhwa and read it in one go :") )
~ Not sure if this manhwa is everyone's cup of tea. If you are looking funny yet serious story with DBZ like action. This manhwa is for you!read more
This anime reminds me of Stars wars a little but in medieval Chinese times, the war between the dark force and the light force makes it even more enjoyable, there are so many guilds/clans whatever you want to call them and they have their own masters and disciples which are all pretty strong, also it gets better their are another 4 kingdoms who are called the neutral force who do not want to get involved in the conflict between the two main forces, the main characters is similar to Goku from Dragonballz the way he looks and how after every battle his power just increases which is freaking awesome, however he has an obsession with women which Goku doesn't and I don't know if that's going to change or not lol, I can't say much in this review as I might end up spoiling something for you, you need to read this for yourselves and decide. I would want to rate this a 9/10 manga but it needs a anime so I am going to rate it an 8.
The reason why I gave it a 8 is because this would have been better if it had an anime with it because it needs colour and the voice of a character really brings out their personality better.read more
Surprised their are no reviews yet for this manhwa considering it's being updated with 148 chapters already released, but no matter cause here is MY review.
Story - Ruler of the Land is about Han Bi Kwang the 6th disciple of the most powerful master of the dark clan. Despite this Han Bi Kwang has no desire to learn martial arts and only wants to find a wife and live a peaceful life. The story is quite good despite there not being any overall plot like becoming the strongest or taking over the world or anything like that. Mostly you just follow Han Bi Kwang and his perverted antics. Despite this the story doesn't lack since it mostly concentrates on the journey of Han Bi Kwang and his partner.
Art - The art is good but not great. While in general the art is good, there are times when they are fighting that there is too much going on making it difficult to tell what is happening. But other than that, the character designs are good, and you can always tell who is who which many manga have a hard time doing.
Character - This is where Ruler of the Land shines. The characters all have their unique personalities so their in never a dull moment between them. From the extremely perverted Han Bi Kwang to Hwa-Rin uneasy feelings she has toward Bi Kwang the characters make this manhwa what it is. Also something I like there are not a lot of extra characters popping up for a few chapters then leaving, all the characters have their place and help move the story along.
Enjoyment - The enjoyment factor for this is high, took me about two days to marathon through this and considering it had my attention for just about all of it I would say it is an enjoyable read. The thing that makes this so good is that it mixes comedy with seriousness quite well, and even though most of the time jokes are being thrown around that doesn't detract from the overall story. While this wasn't the funniest manga I've ever read it does usually leave you with a smile.
Overall this is a really good manhwa that is clearly underrated. If you are looking for something enjoyable that will make keep wanting to read this is for you. This manwha may not be as popular as some others but this is definitely a must read for anyone looking for a great fantasy, adventure, martial arts story.read more
The Ruler of the land is pretty entertaining, I quickly read through the scanlated chapters and it left me wanting more.
The story: 8/10: The story is a bit cliche, but since this manhwa was made back in the 90s I can forgive it. It is an adventure type story where the main character just goes in whichever direction his penis is pointing. Quite different from the usual main characters that are too scared to look at women.
The art: 7/10: The art isn't too spectacular, but it is still good and the way the panels are managed made the actions and martial arts the characters use have more impact.
The Characters: 8/10: I really like the characters in this manhwa, Especially the main character. Bi-Kwang is easily one of my favourite characters from a comic. His reasons for learning the martial arts are simple, he just wants a woman. No real big goal in life, he just wants to spend his life happily married to a woman he loves. A great reason to become one of the most powerful men in the world.
Enjoyment: 10/10: The characters are funny and the art isn't bad. I laughed at a lot of the jokes and some of the special moves were awesome.
Overall: 8/10: I would recommend this manga to anyone that enjoyed dragon ball, as they are both similar except I think that this Manhwa is funnier
It is quite different to the usual trope of "I want to get more powerful to protect my friends"read more
