Dear Mine (Manga)

Now as fair warning, I'd like to say that I am not only a very generous criticizer, but also a sucker for romance stories. I had come across this manga merely as something I figured I would read in my spare time, as it is a fairly short read for shoujo. Little did I know it would be a story I'd find myself completely head-over-heels for and constantly (and girlishly) squealing over due to the utter sweetness of the manga.

Story: 10 (Outstanding)
Now I have always been a huge fan of shoujo and romance mangas for as long as I could remember. The thing about reading so many is that often times they end up having the same generic story: teenagers falling in love at light speed, usually having to overcome the obstacles of popularity, jealousy, trust, and rivalry. "Dear Mine" explores the obstacle of age between the developing relationship of a 10-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl. Although it sounds quite scandalous, the story at its 22 chapters perfectly explores this relationship at a speed where the characters really get to know one another at an emotional level of romance. The exploration of love in this manga is wonderful; it shows the tender budding relationship in a sweet and innocent way that is rarely like any other. "Dear Mine" is also comedic and lighthearted. Again, I am a sucker for these kinds of stories, so if you are too you're sure to love this manga.

Art: 7 (Good)
I am quite used to reading "old style" manga, in which the art is obviously in a style common to manga drawn at least 10 years ago. As "Dear Mine" was published in 2000, the art isn't the best around regarding detail and dynamics, but it is very sweet and very good in its own right. It is simple and tolerable, so if you are not picky you shouldn't have any problems with the art. I found the art to be quite cute and humorous!

Character: 9 (Great)
"Dear Mine" explores the relationship between a genius and extremely mature (albeit stubborn and straightforward) 10-year-old boy, Fuuma, and a kindhearted and motherly (albeit naive and clumsy) 17-year-old girl, Satoko. The development between these two characters is really sweet and adorable, considering how mature the boy is. The story focuses on their struggles as a couple regarding age, aristocracy, acceptance, and emotional love. You can almost feel the characters growing as you see the tender moments they share together. And nothing is sexual in this story; "Dear Mine" truly focuses on what it means to fall in love with someone emotionally. You'll easily find yourself loving the characters as their individual personalities interact with one another. The supporting characters as well add humor and are very much individuals of their own.

Enjoyment: 10 (Outstanding)
Without a doubt, I have enjoyed reading this story from the very beginning to the end. Seeing the characters and their stories unfold, watching the sweet and adorable romance bud between two unlikely protagonists, "Dear Mine" has tugged at my heart and made me "awww" dozens of times. Everything about this manga is very enjoyable and lighthearted. It's a perfect read for 22 chapters. (I wish there was even more!)

Overall, I love "Dear Mine" and it has easily made my list of favorites for its simplicity, sweetness, and interesting plot. I absolutely recommend this manga to any shoujo/romance fans out there who are looking for a great read. read more

The story is written by Hana to Yume.
It's about 17 years old high school girl Satoko. She's optimistic and cheerful girl who lives a normal life. School,friend and love. Her Father died when she was younger. After the dead of her father her family became poor. But this doesn't stop her from being happy. She goes true life with a smile and try to make the best out of it. Her mother works for a company that's own by a old friend of the family.
However one day when she was eating bento with her friend a wild dog attacks her. And that day she meets with 10 years old boy named Fuuma who save her from the dog.
She then offer him some of her bento as a thanks for saving her.
She doesn't know that this boy is the head of Wakudera Corporation and her finance witch was decided by there parents.
She goes home later and finds the boy outside her house. The apartment is empty and her mother is gone.. A guy comes to pick her up. Telling her that her mother is waiting for her at there new home. She follows the guy and they arrive at a mansion she then meets with Fuuma again and learn the truth. Her mothers friends company went bankrupted and her mother friends is nowhere to be found.
This makes her mother responsible for the dept. However the dept is payed by Fuuma.
And by the end of the day she finds herself moving in to the mansion with a 10 years old boy as her finance.
Can she still live happily? How will she accept the boy?
Well the story may seem out of the ordinary, But It's light ,cheerful and funny.
The character and the setting is fair draw. I think the story is good but i miss some detailed on the character.
But the enjoyment of this manga was very good. To see how the character grow and how they struggle to find an answer to there feelings.
(When i was reading the manga i actually find myself forgetting that the boy Fuuma was only 10 years old.) and again i really enjoyed this manga:)
