SynopsisAfter the crime rate began to spiral out of control in the third Toutoh empire, a law was established to help expedite trials and relieve the pressure on the overcrowded prisons, which were filled to the brim with criminals who had been sentenced to life in prison without any chance of parole. According to this new law, trials could still be held and the death sentence could still be given to accused criminals who hadn’t been captured yet. Moreover, in order to capture these criminals who had been given a punishment by the courts, the Special Executions police force was created…

In the near future, criminals can be condemned without being present at their trial. Meet the Tokkei, a group of elite executioners whose job is to hunt down and dispose of those who have received the death penalty. Our story mostly follows the first brigade, the best of the Tokkei, as they carry out their missions of justice.
As for the title, the Tokkei have to constantly deal with being called dolls (or "puppets") who mindlessly carry out their executions. Should they bring personal feelings into their grisly work?
This is like a police story (if you've read "Switch," also by Naked Ape, the police and detective themes are very similar). But the executioners here wield swords as well as guns. High drama and psychological twists keep things exciting.
The artwork is beautiful, with heavy contrasts and luscious lines. The only complaint I had with it is that it's sometimes hard to tell tell a few of the characters apart (though it's not as much of a problem as it was in Switch).
The only major detraction for me was the violence. After all, we're chasing down murderous criminals here. Whether it's discussed or shown, there is a TON of disturbing stuff. That's why I nocked down my rating from a 9 to an 8. (Not as bad as E's or Trinity Blood though).
Overall, a very engrossing and interesting josei manga. read more

Action, mystery, police work and colourful characters. All in gorgeous artwork of naked ape. These stories are similar and completely different at the same time. As a huge fan of one I fully enjoyed the other. So it's possible you might too.
They both have the same artist(I think) and they both are kinda psychological and make you realize stuff about human nature, that you'd never really notice usually.
Both feature police drama, crime, danger, action, violence, and beautiful artwork by Naked Ape. (That also means both have lots of characters who are hard to tell apart--Switch is the worse of the two). Dolls is much more violent than Switch.
Dolls is about a group of elite executioners, and Switch is about narcotics control officers.

The uniforms for the military and Tokei are similar and both manga have seriousness and humor well balanced.
Lastly both manga are filled with hot boys
