i currently use paint.net to make icons, but a friend of mine says to switch to gimp.

are there any solid reasons for me to stop using paint.net and switch to gimp? or, rather, to stay with paint.net and not switch to gimp?
i mean, they're both legit, free programs, so how much better can one be over the other?

if all you do is making icons and paint.net does the job you want dont bother switching

I use GIMP for all the stuff I make but I doubt there's much difference. If you are already use to using paint.net and it's doing everything you need it to there probably isn't much point in switching. Whatever works for you I guess.^^

I've used both, and I actually prefer Paint.Net. It's more simple. And if you're okay with it you shouldn't bother.

(I applaud you for your ability to make good icons on Paint.Net.)

I've been playing around with InkScape recently. SVG is pretty awesome.

All I use is paint.net, and I even have photoshop installed. I guess I prefer the simplicity.
