THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
A pleasant episode even though not much happened imo. There's some bath fan-service as well as a little history of the tanks again. Just a relaxing episode imo.

Heh, exploring places can be fun occasionally also, especially in the dark.

Well, for anyone asking about how Oarai can possibly compete against Pravda and Black Forest Peak in the upcoming battles, this episode provided the best possible answer.

A non-action episode, but a nice one anyway. Very good character development and character interaction, showed team building, and ascension is well underway. Liked the way they had foreshadowed having at least three more tanks on the ship (tank numbers went up to 8), so that the are tracking them down is a nice way to both allow a natural progression, and provide more possible surprises down the road (there is no reason why there shouldn't be 10 tanks)

Thought it might turn a little more serious with how the last episode ended, was completely wrong, but it did serve to make the introduction of the grandmother more enjoyable. Miho's past is explained, as well as her failure, and her mother is introduced. Pretty much what one expected.

The director is very good with misdirection, with the title name and the commercial board, they set up the scene with Anzio so that one expected something very different from what occurred, very well done.

Looking forward to next week.

I wonder what would happen if I found something big and powerful looking monster in the dark

Anyways, This episode is really interesting and it shows that Ooarai is finally getting serious in Senshado. I cant really tell much as the subbed version isn't up yet, and my Japanese isn't anywhere near good. But from just watching, Miho's past is explain and why she initially quit Senshado, why Black Forest did't win the last tournament, Mako Granma is a shouter, and a quick look on their match with Anzio......real quick

All in all, I really enjoy this episode. Although not much action like Episode 6 and episode 4, but this episode really wants you to get up and see what will Ooarai do next.

As I mentioned, it's a Tiger (P), which was the competing design that lost to the Tiger (H) aka the Tiger I for mass production. Only 5 units were completed, and only 1 Tiger (P) was sent into combat as a command tank fitted with 100mm more frontal armor for a whopping total of 200mm of protection. The rest of the 90 hulls made were converted into Ferdinand tank destroyers.

The question now is whether the example that Oarai has is the very same vehicle used as the command tank (unit 003) with the extra armor, or if it's one of the remaining 4 stock units.

It's still going to be an interesting Tiger

I was wondering when they're ever going to search the rest of the ship. Looks like the girls found a Tiger. I still can't get enough of Mako's neko ringtone. It's just so funny hearing it.

Are those tanks that Miho was fighting against in her old school T-34's? They sort of look like them to me.

I was hoping to see battle with Anzio, sure result was easy to predict but it would be fun.

And upgrade at last - they won't have to go with that ancient weaponry... so they will have great assault gun, one good tank, failed prototype and 2 x ancient weaponry?

or at least I hope they will make this change as their old tanks would look rather sad against T-34

Saki

Is Saki Maruyama (丸山 紗希) your favorite GaruPan character? Surname: 丸山 = Maruyama. Given name: 紗希 = Saki.

She is the loader on the Rabbit Team in the M3 Lee. All of the members of that team are first year students. The M3 Lee has two big guns. The biggest (75 mm) gun is on the side. The 37 mm gun is on the top. Saki loads rounds into the 37 mm gun. The shells are 223 mm long. The maximum rate of fire is 25 rounds per minute. So Saki must be in excellent shape.

Some people out there in cyberspace are huge, huge fans of Saki, as you can see from these pictures which show all the times when Saki appears:

Pretty sure the Anzio match will be in the manga and/or a BD only episode.

In any case, good episode. My guess is that against Pravda the group from the OP that we haven't seen yet will take over the Char B1, Volleyball will use the upgraded PzIV and Team A will use the Tiger.

I love that someone finally called one of the historian team girls out on their inaccuracies.

Who are these girls? Is that ever explained?

A blog earlier today from the GaruPan director ( Mizushima / 水島努 ‏/ @tsuki_akari ) described them as 水産科のセーラー女子 which seems to literally mean "sailor girls who are studying fisheries". But fishermen don't wear sailor suits. Also, giant converted aircraft carriers aren't used as fishing boats.

Every feature on the tank I can see points to it being the Tiger (P), since it has visible features that the Tiger H (aka the Tiger everyone knows) doesn't have, like the circular ports on the side of the hull along with the side tool placements.

It helps that the Tiger (P) had been teased by the official site several weeks back. Here's an official giveout image where you see a Tiger P among the tanks shown (it's to the right of the Churchill).

When i think about Renault i think about cars not about tanks there's almost nothing on tanks on there Wikipedia page either, so seeing this was pretty surprising.
That canon the found didn't appear to be part of the first tank they found and the second tank they found already had a canon.
So i wonder if they will find the tank which that canon belonged to.
Judging from the song they played at the second tank it's most likely a powerful one don't know what the song is called but it was often played in old war movies when something powerful was shown.

Mako's grandmother was pretty funny tho very strict and her way of not showing much care is similar to that of Mako herself especially when she mentioned that they would be bad if they hadn't made it to the first round.
She was also a very stubborn woman wanting to leave the hospital as fast as possible to go back home.
And it also explained the situation with Mako's family losing them when she was little and to make things worse they had a fight just before her mothers death.

It also showed some of Miho's circumstances her mother is also very strict and she was even willing to sacrifice her students for victory.
I think Miho made the right decision trying to save the girls in the tank that fell in the river.

212 was seen last episode, it's Maho's Tiger, and yes it's the same number as Michael Wittman's Tiger. Not a very subtle indication of what they were going at here.

I'm also interested in that gun they found. Certainly looks like a Kwk 40 (not sure if L/43 or 48 though). On the one hand, that's a huge firepower improvement if they can upgun Miho's tank - by comparison, that side-turret shot on the Churchill that did nothing even point-blank (88mm armor VS <50mm penetration) would be fatal even at 600m for an L/43, and 800m or so for an L/48. The L/48 can also penetrate a Tiger from any angle at 100m. On the other, the Panzer IVF that was converted to use that had a completely new turret. Fun fact though: if an L/43, it's the exact same gun that their StuG IIIF has.

The B1 bis is interesting, but I'm curious how much it'll contribute. The thing is very well armored (60mm front, 55mm side, pretty much immune to Miho's current L/24 gun), but Churchill/Matilda slow, and the 47mm gun is only slightly better than the 37mm gun on the Pz 38(t) - or completely outclassed by it if the 37mm's rarer tungsten round is used - the 75mm howitzer (which has no traverse) is of only limited use at best and has penetration that doesn't significantly exceed that of the 47mm because, well, it's an artillery gun with naturally lower velocity. I also feel sorry for the poor girl stuck commanding it since she has to play gunner, loader, radio operator, and commander.

The Tiger does, at a glance, appear like it might be a Porsche version, and if so, that's also interesting. The Porsche one, IIRC, was faster, but beyond that was inferior in just about every important area to its competitor. The forward mounted gun made maneuvering in hilly or restricted terrain more difficult (since the gun prodrudes further from the hull), it was less maneuverable, and it had a notoriously unreliable drive train. On the other hand, with only 2 examples (though 5 were built, 3 were downgraded to recovery vehicles), there's a 50/50 chance that it would be the one that saw combat.

Edit:
The primary relevance of barrel length is muzzle velocity. Without getting technical in the whys and hows, we can simply put it that the longer the barrel, the greater the potential muzzle velocity, but also the greater the design issues and cost. This is usually measured as a ratio of barrel length to bore diameter (ie, the Panzer IV's 75mm L/24 has a barrel length of about 1.8m). Higher muzzle velocity equals higher penetration, so longer-barreled guns are favored for tank VS tank combat. Cheaper, shorter barreled guns, on the other hand, are good for fire support. Miho's Panzer IVC, for example, was originally intended to engage infantry and fortifications, not other tanks (that was the Panzer III's job), hence a low-velocity short-barreled gun. The original StuG III was the same, but starting with the StuG IIIF, they added a newer, longer-barreled gun to give it the ability to take out then-current medium and heavy tanks like the T-34 and KV-1, which the Panzer III fleet was helpless against (and they could not be sufficiently up-gunned).

Longer barrel means higher muzzle velocity = higher penetration. Also the difference between long and short barrels - "long barrels" (like let's say Tiger's 88mm) were generally used as anti-tank while short ones (like KV-2's 152mm) were generally howitzers, using high explosive ammunition to destroy fortifications etc.

Wow that image is super clear compared to the video I just watch. Yes from that point of view it looks like a Tiger Porsche tank. I am sure no introduction to this tank. And yeah I got the colour of the Tiger P (i was looking at the right tank)wrong, it looks like the tiger porch is in military green, but I don't remember any German tank painted in full military green. But than again the pic itself is green.

Thanks for pointing that out , can't wait to see more tiger in the next ep . And from the op credits, what looks like sodoko team will be commanding either the the IV or the Tiger( all three ranks are dark grey and if you look closely bottom of that bird pics, a white paint. Both tanks have that white word in the side), altough I skeptical about this because they only show 3 members and both tanks require at least 4 (maybe another tank!)

I wonder who will get the Char/Renault B1. It's quite a tank and would be ooarai's first heavy tank. Like the churchill , very well armored but fighting capabilities and maneuverability is painfully bad. I seriously hope that they can change tank during the next tournament because I don't want to see the volleyball team in their light 89 get slaughtered . The 38(t) also has to go. And most likely Miho team will stick to the IV(it's the poster tank!)

cool picture, got any group ones of team rabbit?

I just found one clear picture showing all six members of Team Rabbit:

It seems that Saki is (top left) the only GaruPan character who is extremely popular, apart from the five girls on the Ankou team. Some amateur artists are posting their work online. Here is a good doujinshi sketch of Saki:

@orzel286: Thanks for answering Aversa's questions. Not really a tank expert.

Also about the missing tank, I think it will come up eventually and it's possible crew could be the 4 members of the mechanics/motor club in the OP since they have a Lion symbol there as a subtle hint for a possible team name, I guess. :)

Kinda disappointed near the ending but I'm happy for them. Loved Mako's faces when they were in the dark. She's more scared at ghost than waking up early in the morning.. forever my favorite! ^^

They don't have to have full members for each tanks. For example: In Student Council team - Momo acts as both gunner and loader, and Anzu acts as both commander and operator. M3 Lee also need one more loader (for its main gun) but Ayumi (main gun's gunner) acts as both gunner/loader.

Hey, good eyes! I didn't notice that Lion avartar for mechanics club before.

Look like there are many hints in OP ~

Other hints we have found so far... (in spoiler to safe space)

Never thought she would be probably. But I guess, quiet girls have a special charm
inside of them. Aya and Yuuki are my favorites for team Rabbit.

Well, then it looks like the girls found 2 additional tanks, one A Renaulth B1 Bis more commonly called "Char B1." and the other.........i'm not sure what it was, but nice to know that the Mark 4 has a Kwk 40 gun and now it is a tank killer.

The thing about the Renault is that the hull gun is not used as a tank killer, rather it is use as an howitzer, in other it is not something that is used to fire directly at the target, rather it is something that is fired over the target.

OPs usually spoils or gives clues about future episodes. Those anime logos give clues of future and upcoming tank crew members.
