According to the statement of accounts of IG Port (the parent company of Production I.G and XEBEC), a sequel to a "big hit" TV series will be produced by 2013.

IG Port announced a significant amount of loss in the second quarter of 2010. Sengoku BASARA, Higashi no Eden and To LOVE-Ru have contributed to the sales but they couldn't compensate for the bad loans of Uchuu Senkan Yamato: Fukkatsu-hen and the failure of Hottarake no Shima ~Haruka to Mahou no Kagami~. Taking responsibility of the huge loss, one of the executive directors of IG Port resigned the post and the personnel expenses will be cut down by the reduction of the bonus and the salary-cut of the administrators. IG Port expects 15% increase in the sales by the production of the "big hit" series in 2Q 2013.

Yeah, the biggest hit that IG Port has ever produced is Ghost in the Shell, it could just turn out to be that.

If I remember well, the company had decided to turn to movies to try new marketing strategies. How could they not see the losses coming with titles like Hottarake no Shima, though...

Yeah, I would guess that it is Ghost in the Shell also.

I don't really care since I never really liked Ghost in the Shell, I just found it really boring and too dramatic.

There's the danger erm..i mean possibility of it being a new Tsubasa Chronicles season? And besides as we all know the male-like hormone driven raging fangirls would demand something like that.

I just hope it's GitS though... XD

Ghost in the Shell seems likely. As much as I'd like it to be a Tsubasa TV series remake, I don't think the TV series was a 'big hit', getting canned and all. That, and it was under Beetrain and not IG or XEBEC.

The OVAs were really good and they were made by IG, but I don't think it will be Tsubasa, although, I would love it if it were.

They could do a remake from the beginning, and this time they'll do it right, with all the blood, drinking and violence intact.

Hmmm, could be Tsubasa Chronicles, after all those OVA's were a step up. No more Ghost in the Shell, not after the way that movie ended. It just doesn't feel necessary. Hopefully it's not Kimi ni Todoke they have in mind, a second season of the same exact thing is far too much. Though, a 15% expected increase in profits would be safe enough to assume more GitS.

GitS is a big possibility, but other choices could also be Higashi no Eden, Tsubasa, Pandora Hearts (XEBEC) or even a new Kimi ni Todoke

It doesn't take three years to prepare sequels for adaptations like Kimi ni Todoke or Pandora Hearts (which wasn't that big of a seller either). Higashi no Eden isn't established enough for a three year wait, which would kill any momentum.

It's got to be something big and established like GitS.

I'd love to see Nadesico, but that's pretty unlikely.

Seeing as Ghost in the Shell was their most sold project, the chances for more Motoko are indeed very high (and by all means I do have nothing against that).

On the other hand a second season of Kimi ni Todoke doesn't sound too impossible either.

Honestly, I'd love a third season of OYAKATA-SAMA!

It has to be Ghost in the Shell, they did mentioned it's a sequel to a big hit series so I can't image they had in mind another series. Come on, all the other anime series mentioned in this thread don't come near to the popularity of Gits and Gits guarantees instant success not just in Japan.

btw I would forever hate the series that would be picked over Gits.

Biggest hit of the company is obviously GitS

...Patlabor is a movie.

Prince of Tennis. xxxHolic, Cromartie High, FLCL, and Blood + is also a possibilty

Im rooting for an Eden of the East Sequel namely having a whole new cast and maybe setting it as a prequel to the original series.

Don't forget, they're also had their hand in collective works, like the animatrix, Halo Legends, and Batman... So its a possibility they're working on a "big hit" american series too. Can't rule that out. Look at the Madhouse x Marvel titles...

Just looked through the list for Production I.G. If it has anything to do with Blade of the Immortal (haven't watched the anime but I love the manga), GITS, or FLCL, I will be thrilled.

You sure? The Manga of Pandora Hearts isn't exactly where you could easily pull of a new season right away. Waiting 2years before starting would however be very possible.
(Also I really don't think they'll produce something over 2years long if they want to increase their sales. Anime is expensive, but you don't really need to overdo it...)

Anyway, 2013.. who knows if I still like anime by then or whatever. Nothing really to think about.
