I have no clue what functions Elements has, you probably should get some real photoshop. Anyway, if you MUST use that image, first you need to read up on masking then do a tiny(!!!) bit of sharpening as your starting image looks shitty and blurred. It's like cooking, you can't make anything delicious from poor ingredients Photoshop CS5 has some improved masking tools so I would recommend going for CS5 or 6 |

Elements isn't that bad for things like that honestly. It's cheap and/or free with tablets and there's not a huuuuge difference. The layout is different, and there are some more advanced features (which is mostly just like the quick photo editing tools), but that's basically it. Someone who's not really used to or not necesarrily invested into working with digital art shouldn't bother to buy it. It's like $700 for god's sake. Even the student one is $200, and it has an expiring license. Bottom line, I've used elements and I currently use cs5. Don't buy it unless you're really serious and committed, because the value difference is meaningless if you're just talking about making a few signature banners for forums. Serious photo editing or digital drawing and painting, or all of the above, then maybe. ![]() |

Honestly you don't need PS CS5. You don't even need a creative suite edition of photoshop let alone a PS version like 5 or 6 that have features meant for people who have advanced knowledge in skill in graphic design. You could also get GIMP or Paint Shop Pro, both free editing programs similar to Photoshop that's just as capable for signature/avatar/banner creations. I played around with that image just for fun and there's a lot that you can do with it just by sharpening and adding some textures of brushes. |
