| Is it just my opinion or has anime had a severe increase in quality in terms of character and story over the last few years. Obviously this does not apply to ALL anime released but fortunately it seems to be a growing majority that are becoming more and more based around philosophical themes, outlandishly hilarious comedy, or just good taste in general. Personally I have only found maybe 40-50 anime not worth watching in that span of time and that didn't used to be the case so I ask why now? What are your opinions on the matter? | I'll take you seriously when you've watched a couple dozen/hundred anime from each decade and 15+ for each season of the last 5 years. And even then you could still be cherry-picking. Threads like this are always ridiculous. |

| If you were to look at a list of anime in each season from 5/10/15 years ago I'm pretty sure you'd realise that it's always been like this. There's always some good anime, some great ones and a lot of crappy ones. The difference is that you're comparing anime that came out in 20 years to anime that's been released in a much shorter span, it's obvious the former has more anime you enjoyed. |

Hell after maybe 3 episodes the charm deflates. An example would be in the western cartoon Duckman. A running joke was killing two plush like creatures after a fews seasons it got boring so they had to bring in a new character to remind us 'Oh yes thats funny cause its not really normal'. Comedy requires refreshers or else it becomes stale. I don't know your example because I avoid American comedies because I personally find the typical American sense of humour awful. It is true that if it were just the same thing done over and over again any comedy would get boring. But it is easy... nay, it is normal, for something that I would describe as a ridiculous comedy to be easily sufficiently varied so that I don't tire of it, even in situations (which are probably a minority) where the comedy all revolves around the same theme. Running jokes are also a plus, so long as they aren't overdone. Examples of stuff that I would describe as ridiculous comedy include anything by KUROHA, ruutsu/Terada Tsugeo or Seiichi Shiki. And of course OreTwi. |
