I'd love it if we had a gunplay/gunporn tag for shows.

There's no good way that I know of, to look for shows that feature heavy firearm use, such as Black Lagoon or Jormungand.

Action is more than enough to describe these two. If you want to find an anime with ‘heavy firearm use’ use the Anime & Manga Recommendations board. Cheers.

We once had.
That's what the "tags" under every animu main page was for.
Unfortunately, according to the staff, a lot of people misused it, so it was disabled and removed.
Just Google it.

Action is way too much of a general term to be useful for this.

That's a shame.

That's why I don't just use MAL when it comes to tag searches, AniDB has a lot more of a detailed tag search.
Anime Planet as well.

The search function on this forum offers infinitely more insight than any single other resource for this purpose.

Use it.

That requires too much specificity (didn't think I'd complain about this). It's a pain. If you included Gunplay, then you'd have to include other weapons too. Also,

Yes. And it should remain that way.

And tags are usually used for these things, such as this.

I understand what you're trying to say, but you're using the wrong arguments.
Bringing up tags (again) wouldn't require extra effort from the staff and "having too many different tags" wouldn't be a problem simply because they are user generated.
The most repeated ones gets the highlight, while the less specifics stay on the shadows. This way it doesn't matter if there's gunfight, swordfight, dogfight, kittiesfight, dickfight, whatever. As only the most used ones will be visible.

>And tags are usually used for these things, such as this.
No. Tags nowadays are used for these things because they lost their primordial function.
Back in the day, they used to do exactly what OP suggested:

No, that was my bad. I misunderstood and thought he was speaking of Genre tags since I assumed the normal tagging system on mal works fine. I dunno how it looked before '14. Joined three yrs ago but I wasn't active until a yr ago.

Lol. And doesn't the current system filter the most popular ones? Which I assume is the most repeated ones.

...What am I missing?

It doesn't. Not the current system, at least. What you see is the most popular tags as they were the moment tag system was stopped, few years ago, or 14.06.2010, to be more precise. You won't see it on any of the newer shows added to the DB after that date, you can check that
Here're the threads when the tag system was implemented:

And disabled:

Someone (I think it was a mod) said in some thread that the very reason why tags were disabled was because users started misusing tags, i.e. the reason and consequence were vice versa, but I don't believe that. And even if so, it's entirely Xinil's fault as in all honesty, what's the sense in the comment field that can't be displayed as a column?
