Joost, established in 2007 and one of the pioneers within audio and video streaming, announced on the 30th of June that they would stop with offering free video distribution to the public. The reason for this was said to be the difficulty of making money from advertising and recent years competition with other providers like YouTube and Hulu. Among the titles that Joost Japan provided was animes like "Death Note", "Naruto" and "Slam Dunk" and an overall coverage of the top titles broadcasted in Japan.
At the same time Joost.com published news that they will make a reorganization and restructure of its business model to try and provide professional online video platforms for companies and cable and satellite providers.

I hope they stick around. Joost has always been the best in terms of quality.

Hmm, I've never heard of Joost either. I guess they never really made a point of advertising themselves. No wonder they're going under.

I think majority of us are in the same boat here.. They've been operating since '07 and quite a number of people have heard of the site. I guess with sites such as YouTube and so on, Joost would hardly be noticeable.

I had heard about them when they went into beta but then I moved and the new nets had bandwidth limits so pretty much has taken me out of all the streaming content.

It was when Joost had the stand alone player that used bittorrent technology. It's to bad they killed that and went with the web player just to try and get more users.

Another fail like Veoh. The founders of Joost were also the founders of Skype.
And they only have a few animes on the site now.

Joost and Veoh both were good and had a promising future while they lasted.

edit: Seems like Joost is gone and Veoh is run by Qlipso.
