Could it be 'Rebuild of Evangelion: 3.0" instead (also change 4.0's), so it matches 1.0 and 2.0 alphabetically? Right now 3.0 and 4.0 are above the first two movies when listing them. Just something that bugs me, I like consistency. Thanks!

That's because we don't know the titles of those movies yet, but I'll add the colon for now.

The Q Quickening thing may simply be a working title, they might change it to something that is simmilar to the previous titles and makes more drastic changes to the series, i.e.

Evangelion 3.0: Rei is [not] your mother

lolx2 But, I'm sure Q.Quickening isn't the actual name. At least, I hope not.

As confusing as this is, each of the Rebuild movies actually have several official titles. For example, the first two movies are also known as Evangelion: Beginning and Evangelion: Breaking, which, according to wikipedia, are all references to the structure of classical Japanese orchestra. I'm sure we'll get a "Evangelion 3.0: ___ [not] ____" title along with the first movie poster/theatrical trailer. Hope that helps.

Actually, "Q Quickening" does make sense because the names of the first three movies form the word "jo-ha-kyuu".

In Japanese traditional arts and even iaido there is this thing called "jo-ha-kyuu". It is used to show the pace of the movement/sound. Usually it is written in the kanji 序破急 but here the last 急 (kyuu) is replaced with a Latin Q (kyuu).

In Jim Breen's dictionary, 序破急 is translated as "artistic modulations in Japanese traditional performances; opening, middle and climax (end)". I think that in our school it is "slow, fast, steep", but I'm not acutally sure if it should be "slow, steep, sudden (stop?)".

Unfortunately, this also means that I cannot predict the name of the last movie, if it isn't 完 (kan, "the end").

Anyway, "Rei Is (Not) Your Mother"...! XD

// edit: "if it isn't 完 (kan)"
+ or 終 (owari)
or 末 (matsu/sue)
or something with these kanji that mean "end".

Q/Quickening also makes sense thematically because...

so yeah, I'd say it's the actual film name.

Also, Eva 4.0 is never called "4.0" in the trailers, it's always just called "Final", but 4.0 makes sense to avoid any confusion I suppose.

I just hope they call the last one "You Can (not) Survive".

Q (kyuu/Quickening) is just the Japanese title... It will probably get an "You can (not) see this movie until we release the BR in two-three years" title just like 2.0.

The japanese title of Eva2.0 is "Evangelion Shin Gekijyouban: Ha" and it was referred to as such in every trailer. The "You can (not) advance" was not present until the film posters came around.

It will probably be the same this time.

Uhm, no. Quickening is the official title. What you're on about is the international title, which may be different to the Japanese title but who knows. Keep in mind the first movie was called Jo (Prelude) and the second was called Ha (Break), so Quickening fits right in if you actually look at the content of the films.

Yeah I also loved the (not) titles but Quickening is the official name it says it in you can (not) Advance at the end during the trailer, it also makes sense in content of the movie considering the end of 2.0 was a sort of quickening

Do you have to watch the anime to understand the movies? Sounds like an idiotic question, I know, but if they're two different storylines with the same people I'll probably just start the movies. I can get the base idea of the show from my sister.

Not at all. I never watched the Evangelion TV anime before I started the rebuild movies, but I have to admit that it was rather confusing when I watched it this way (some of the terms etc. were hard to understand). What I did was I read the manga instead. It gives you a good idea on what's going on and the manga is actually very good.

Sorry but what do you mean confirmed for sequel? Do you mean the Rebuild of Evangelion series will get a sequel, after the 4 movies, or that Rebuild of Evangelion itself is a sequel to the original series? Culd you please elaborate on that im very confused... thanks

Rebuild itself is a sequel to the original TV series

There has been many hints within the movies which imply that what has happened within the TV series was simply a cycle of recurring events (TV series being the first round). The title of the 3rd movie directly refers to such a theory (Redo?).

Guys, the Japanese title is called Q Quickening. the International title is what's called You Can (Not) Redo. Just like how Jo (Prelude) and Ha (Break) were the Japanese titles for 1.0 and 2.0 but their International English titles were You Are (Not) Alone and You Can (Not) Advance, respectively.

tl;dr: Studio khara's title format is

Japanese Title: "Evangelion New Movie Edition: __ "

International Title: "You __ (Not) ____ "

I don't agree with the rebuild of eva being a sequel, the cycle thory sure sounds interesting, but it's just not tangible enough or that believable, I would just see it as how anno put it, just a rebuild. Surely theres alot of eva theories out there but I don't wanna over-anaylze things

Personally, I believe that this theory is at least partially correct in that there is simply no other way of explaining why the sea was blue in the original series and is red in the Rebuild movies

Not to mention the spear already being in space, those curious little things Kaworu said about Shinji at the end of both movies, why Mari seems to know Shinji without ever meeting him before (the Asuka theory).

They are real subtle changes that you catch if you've seen the original series that just make you think.
